A DAY IN A LIFE OF AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN GIRL
Hi, my name is Joanna. I live in ancient Egypt and I am eight. I am here to tell you about my life.
I woke up and jumped out of bed. Then I put on my plain white dress. I share a room with my brother William, who is awake too. He wears a short white skirt around his waist.
We run outside and into the worshipping room. We worship the gods a little while and then rush back.
We eat our breakfast of bread and figs. We say hello to our father and mother and then we go out to do our chores.
I went to the door and got a jar to carry water in I walked down to the Nile river. I leaned down to get some water. Then I brought it back into the house. My brother went to fish. When he came back it was time for school.
We all did the same things our parents did. My brother was a scribe. I learn to cook, clean, weave and all that. Today I learned to cook a fish and how to skin it. My brother learned how to paint and write on a vase or pot.
When we got back it was about noon. My brother and I went to do our last chores to finish up. I made bread, and my brother went to the market to buy a goose, fruit, eggs, and figs for our dinner. Then it was time for us to play.
My mother started to bake bread and make the dinner. My brother played with spinning tops and balls. I played with a wooden lion and a wooden horse on wheels.
Finally it was time to eat. We had a very good dinner. Then my mother and father played Senet, an Egyptian game. We went slowly back outside to worship the gods and then back inside and lay down on our beds.
We rested our heads on wooden head rests. Slowly we fell asleep. That's how my day goes. THE END
