What will Glenmore Road Public School be like in the future? There will still be between 260 and 280 children and the same number of classes because our classroom spaces will not increase. Change is so rapid and frequent now that it is difficult to predict with certainty what will be happening in our classrooms within even just the next five years. In the 1960s the biggest change was allowing children to use biros instead of dip-in pens. I remember teachers I taught with at that time predicting dire consequences if children wrote with biros! We have come a long way in those thirty years. The impact of the technological revolution has been enormous in education and it seems to have no limits.
In the immediate future at Glenmore Road we will have both intranet and internet facilities throughout the school. We should have our new Library block, more shaded areas and upgraded sports facilities by the year 2000. No matter what physical changes and improvements we make, we will never want to change or need to improve our stunning view across the city and Sydney Harbour, something special we have shared with previous generations of Glenmore Road children.
What does the future hold for Glenmore Road Public School? Whatever lies ahead I hope that it will always be a place where children's energy, vitality, honesty and curiosity are cherished and nurtured; where ideas, opinions, insights, observations and suggestions are encouraged and expected; where learning and learning to learn really happen for children, parents and teachers. I hope that Glenmore Road Public School will always be a truly happy place. It has been and always will be an extra special place to me.
