What's Glenmore Road Public School like in 1998? We have about 260 children in ten classes, a great group of dedicated teachers and administrative staff and our wonderfully supportive parents. Our school is tucked away in Paddington, in spacious grounds overlooking the city and Sydney Harbour. There are lots of different spaces in our playground, including our tennis court and the gardens of native plants and trees which we have been planting over the last six years. We have an excellent Before and After School Centre in the original Headmaster's residence which we all call "The Cottage".
Our school day starts with our Morning Assembly in the Top Playground at 9.20 a.m. and it finishes at 3.30 p.m. Inside our classrooms you will find busy, happy children, writing in their Journals, saving work at the computers on their discs, discussing philosophical questions, holding class meetings, telling news, solving mathematical questions, conducting experiments, working with their teachers and learning from each other. Something new, interesting and different is always happening at Glenmore Road.
One of the best things about our school is our Performing Arts Program. We have two Concert Bands, two Drama Groups, three Dance Groups and four Choirs. In fact, two thirds of our children are in at least on of these groups. We have lots of special programs at our school in which everyone has the chance to be involved, such as Italian, Philosophy and Peer Support. This year, like every year, we have many special days and occasions. Friday Assembly is the most important part of our week. That is the time when we all come together to celebrate our school week and the achievements our children have made during the week. If you have not been to our Book Week Concert, make sure you come next year - it is not to be missed.
