Glenmore Road was Paddington's second school after
        Woollahra (1878). It was built on a huge sand dune.

    The Department of Public Instruction bought the land from
        John Gurner for 6800 pounds.

    Glenmore Road was always a mixed school.

    Bondi baths was used by the school's first Swimming Club.

    At the turn of the century up to the eve of World War 1, the
        pupils had sports afternoon on Fridays. They trekked to
        Farmers Baths in Rushcutters Bay.
        Boys and girls swam separately.

    Before World War 1, the annual concert was held at
        Paddington Town Hall.

    Empire Day was marked by a half day holiday. Displays of
        patriotism extended to flags, red and white badges and
        miniature flags, and for several years Glenmore Road
        joined other local schools who gathered at Victoria
        Barracks to celebrate the occasion.

    School cadets from Glenmore Road trained at the
        Domain or at the Randwick Rifle Range.

    At the beginning of the century there was a boys'
        playground and a separate girls' playground.

    Because of World War 1 the pupils at Glenmore Road
        learned a great deal about Middle East Geography.

    Excursions were rare. During the period 1904-1914 the
        pupils visited the Zoological Gardens in Moore Park and
        The White City Amusement Park soon after its opening, and
        in 1920 there was an excursion to Wentworth Falls by train.

     In both 1926 and 1933 the boys of Glenmore Road won
        The Australian Rules Football Shield.

    The Headmaster's Residence was one of the last two
        occupied in Sydney.

    In 1917 a phrenologist came into school to read the
        children's heads. It was believed that character
        differences could be explained by the shape of
        the head.

    During the second World War two infants' classrooms
        were taken over by The National Emergency Services.

     There were occasional film showings at the Five Ways
        Theatre or West's Olympia for the children.

     In 1945 there was only 1 class in each grade.

    In the 1950s unused classrooms were leased to the Arts
        Council and the National Opera.

    A daytime speech therapy clinic operated at the school in
        the 1950s.

     In the 1970s a House System was created using the names
        of local historical residences: Elfred, Duxford, Bradley
        and Juniper.
