Glenmore Road's Website is a very new venture. It was conceived in March 1998 and over the ensuing 8 months has constantly been added to and expanded until reaching its current size of almost 12MB.

It grew out of a conviction that the Internet is the biggest library in the world and all schools deserve to have their book on a shelf for others to learn from and to share their experiences.

Our website is designed to display the work produced by the children in order that they can feel a pride in their achievements and, by accessing the links provided, can further their investigations and research by visiting other sites with a related focus. Conversely, I see the site as a springboard for others, where they can get a taste of a subject or topic and then, by using our reviewed childsafe links, plunge into the vastness of the Global Library which is waiting to be utilised. From our website, the Internet, which on its own can be intimidating, and from which inappropriate material can be accessed, children from schools all over the world can not only be inspired to undertake their own research but can do so safely, successfully and simply. It is hoped that by using our pages we can narrow down the web for our students.

Since our children's work has been online, they have received comments and encouragement from not only their peers and their family but from visitors to our site from far flung regions of the world. This response to our website has convinced me that the Internet is a new and unique source of communication, sharing, expectation and pride which utilises a tool which will become the keystone of their future learning. The children know that their work and their ideas have a place in the library and can justly stand on the shelves beside submissions such as the Complete works of Shakespeare or information about the Hubble Telescope and the Cairo Museum.

In the future it is anticipated that the site be added to on a regular basis and that pages will be updated and changed as the children undertake new challenges. It is hoped that, through the technology of email and ftp, units of work can be undertaken by children in more than one school and in more than one country, in order that pages may be cooperatively produced and it is envisaged that our children will have the opportunity of 'meeting' children online from all around the world and engage in conversation and share interests as keypals.

Children will learn the skills of website development to enable them to take control of publication on the Internet. In doing so it will further prepare them to take their place in the world of Information Technology.
