Quick cool thing before I get into the log, you can get a free Knoppix Linux CD and Tux sticker at loadux.com. You just need to put a link on your website.

Here it is, the exciting project log of modding a computer into a TV stand kind of thing.

Acquired the enclosure today. Made removable motherboard tray and rails (not yet installed). Mounted power supply.

The case

There it is. Hard drive and mobo aren't installed at the moment.

Mounted surge protector in bottom compartment. Installed blacklight (Why buy cold cathodes when you have fluorescent tubes lying around?)

More stuff installed

With flash. Note blacklight at the top and surge protector at bottom right.

Ooh, glowy

Without flash. The camera can see more UV than human eyes can; it's a lot less purple in real life.

Got some long IDE cables and power extension cables and hooked up the hard drives. At this point I decided it might be a good idea to see if the computer actually still worked, so I did a test power-up. Aside from some troubles with one hard drive (which I've replaced) it works fine.

Hard drives

With flash. Hard drives installed in cage (which is not itself installed) and IDE cables connected.

Ooh, glowy with hard drives

Without flash. Once again, a lot less purple in reality.

Hard drives

It works! With flash. Power connected to the hard drive (Hadn't put the replacement in yet). CD-RW and floppy temporarily hooked up to test.

Ooh, glowy

Without flash. Yep, still less purple really.
