Minerva McGonagall- means 'Goddess of Wisdom' in greek
Albus Dumbledore-'dumbledore' means bumblebee
Serveus Snape-'snape' is a place in London

Nimbus Broom Models-In Greek Mythology, Nimbus is a storm cloud that is a God.
Patronus-patronus means 'protector', so "expecto patronum" means expect a protector.
Animal Translations
Basilisk-a legendary reptile with a deadly glance and breath
Fawkes-traditionally, phoenix consume themselves in fire once every 500 years
Hedwig-means 'saint'
The Secret of the Mirror of Erised
'Erised' spells desire backwards
The Mirror of Erised shows your desire

the inscription on the Mirror of Erised reads:

Other Riddles
In book 1, Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall are talking
outside the Dursley's house, waiting for Hagrid to bring Harry to
them. Dumbledore offers Minerva a lemondrop-'a muggle candy he is
rather fond of'. In book 2, we learn that the password to
Dumbledore's office is 'lemondrop'. (
However, in the British
version, this is not the same. Dumbledore's password in that
version is lemon sherbert. Its interesting how the translation
made such an odd connection between the two books....)
JK Rowling has hinted that the new Defense Against the Dark Arts
Teacher (in book 4) will have a magical eye. Well, if you reread
Ch. 10 in book 3 carefully, you might find some interesting
information. In this chapter, Professor Lupin tells Harry about
Davey Gudgeom, the boy who planted the Whomping Willow when Lupin
was in school. Then Lupin tells Harry how Gugeom got his eye
poked out by the tree. Hmmmm.....A magical eye..... Get my drift????
Here's something interesting. On page 97 in 'Harry Potter and
the Chamber of Secrets' Ron says: "Eat slugs, Malfoy!" Then, on
page 112, Ron starts burping up slugs. Do you think JK Rowling
meant to do that?
