After the fire, firrefighters found the bear cub clinging to the tree and was taken to safety. He had burned his paws and legs. The firefighters, ranger and warden all got together and named the bear Smokey. Since his home had been destroyed, he was flown across country to a new home in the National Zoo in Washington, DC. When kids went to visit him at the zoo they also learned about preventing forest fires.
