Napkin Flower Pot

Materials:

small clay flower pot
scissors
two identical paper napkins with a pretty allover pattern
twine
straight pin
water
white glue
styrofoam tray to dry the pot on
mixing bowl and spoon

1.  Make sure that the clay pot is clean and dry.  It does not need to be a new pot. Cracks and chips will not show in the finished project.

Instruction 2 graphic2.  Pour 3/4 cup (175 milliliters) of the white glue into a bowl and add about 1/4 cup (50 milliliters) of water.   Mix the glue and water will with a spoon.

Instruction 3 graphic3.  You will cover the pot with one or two napkins, depending on the size of the pot.  Open the napkins and see how you need to place them in order to cover the pot completely.  Turn the pot upside down in the sink.

Instruction 4 graphic4.  Dip one napkin in the watery glue to completely cover both sides of the napkin with the mixture.  Carefully lift the napkin out of the glue and drape it over the bottom and one side of the pot.  Lift the pot so that you can fold the ends of the napkin into it.  Do the same thing (with a second napkin) to cover the pot completely.  Work carefully.  This is very messy to do, because the watery glue runs all over the place.  If the napkin tears, patch the spot with a gluey piece of another napkin.  It will look fine when it dries.
Carefully pat the napkins down over the pot so that there are no air bubbles between the pot and the napkins. If there are some you can't get rid of, pop them with the pin.  Shape the napkins tightly over the rim of the pot.

Instruction 5 graphic5.  Cut a piece of twine about 18 inches (46 centimeters) long.  Tie the twine in a bow around the pot just under the rim.  Turn the pot upside down on the Styrofoam tray and let it dry completely.  This could take as long as two days.  When completely dry, add a pretty potted plant and present to your mother (or any other mother you would like to remember) on Mother's Day

Be sure to wash the bowl, spoon, and sink as soon as you have finished the project.  You will probably need to wash yourself, too!
