The stitch above is called a "Tent Stitch". This is the stitch
you will be using to make your
St. Patrick's Day Hat and Shamrock. This stitch is worked
in vertical and horizontal rows over one intersection as show above.
Bring threaded needle up at 1 and all odd numbers and down at 2 and all
even numbers. Shaded stitches indicate second row. If you have
never done needlepoint before, practice on a piece of scrap plastic canvas
before you began your project.
This stitch is called the "Overcast Stitch" It covers the
edge of the canvas. It may be necessary to go through the same hole
more than once to get an even coverage on the edge,
especially at the corners.
When trimming the plastic canvas magnets, it may be advantageous
to cut a rectangle following the thread count first and then trim to desired
shape. Trim any "nubs" being careful not to cut threads. A
small, sharp pair of scissors (be careful!) or craft knife (be even more
careful!!) is recommended for easier handling, but not necessary.
Please have an adult help you with the cutting
part.
Following the chart below, first trim pieces
as shown. Then follow chart for color and placement of stitches using
the Stitch Diagram above as a guide for technique.
Following chart, cover edges using Overcast
Stitch.
Finishing: After piece is completed,
trim Magnetic Strip to desired size and glue to wrong side of stitched
piece.
