Materials:

A plastic knife
Bird Seed
One large pine cone
Peanut Butter
A piece of string or yarn
Hot Glue, Glue *optional*

Children! You will need a parent to help you with this project!

Instructions:

*Note* If you wish to hang your bird feeder then you need to do everything that is in BLUE before you begin! If not then skip to the BLACK instructions.

Blue Instructions for hanging:

1. Get a parent or adult to help you with this. Take your hot glue gun, (or glue bottle) and put some glue on the top of the pine cone. (where you wish to hang it)

2. Place one end of the yarn or string (whichever you are using) on the glue and hold it there until it is dry. You might also want to tie it in a knot as well, to make sure that it stays.

3. Once it is dry, you are ready for the Black Instructions.

Black Instructions for Feeder:

1. Open the jar of peanut butter, and get some on your knife.

2. Spread the Peanut Butter all over the pine cone, including the inside and outside.

3. Repeat Steps 1-2 until the Pine Cone is completely covered with peanut butter.

4. Open the bird seed and sprinkle it all over the pine cone. It should stick to the peanut butter. Keep sprinkling until the pine cone is completely covered with bird seed.

5. Go outside, and hang your bird feeder. Watch the birds eat the seed, and write down what they look like every day. You can then look at books about birds and find out what kind of birds are in your backyard!

6. Don't forget to clean up any mess that you made, and put up the supplies :)
