what you do:
1. First we need to make a 'printing plate' now a printing plate works because the features of the drawing are raised from the base of the plate. We do this by making a round plate from cardboard (using the compass), so do that now. 2. Now cut the different pieces of the picture out of cardboard and glue them to the round plate, for example: if you want to print a picture with a dolphin cut the plate and then from a separate piece of card cut the dolphin out and paste it onto the plate. 3. Once you have all your picture glued to your plate and everything is dry, you can start printing! 4. Start simply by making a crayon print. Here's what to do: lay a piece of newsprint over the plate and rub crayon over the newsprint. There will be a print on the newsprint when you have finished, cool! 5. Now using a white crayon (wax) make another crayon print (like above) but try to only rub the raised parts of the plate. You might have to rub over the plate two or three times so you have a thick layer of crayon. now carefully dye over the newsprint and see what happens because the dye can't cover the wax crayon you will see your print appear 'through' the dye as a white area, neat! 6. Real printing!! carefully ink over your printing plate with the roller so the plate is covered. lay some old newspaper over your workbench and place a piece of white paper down. Now put the plate face down on the white paper and firmly roll the plate with a rolling pin (roll it out several times) when you have finished carefully lift off the plate and let your print dry. 7. Keep practicing and soon you'll be a MASTER PRINTER! |
