Welcome to "Cooking for Kids," a website where kids can pick up a few recipes to try out on Mom and Dad (and sometimes with their help). I am Phyllis (also known as pcp), the author of this page. In real life, I am a biologist, and believe it or not, there is a lot of biology that is just like following a recipe. I was very fortunate to have my grandmother living next door when I was growing up. She and I "cooked" together just about every week. Sometimes I really did help with making cookies, or at least doing the dishes (when I was not playing with my toy boats in the dishwater). I watched as she made beautiful wedding cakes (including my cousin's cake) and when she made enough Christmas cookies to feed a bankful of customers (literally, she sold cookies by the dozens to the local banks). Of all the things I remember about her, I remember her most in the kitchen, in her element. The Christmas before she died, she baked me "Blonde Brownies" as my Christmas present (she was never rich). Maybe these recipes will inspire someone else to take the time in the kitchen and give another kid such fond memories.
