THE PENGUINS

  by Danielle

I walked out my door

And what did I meet?

I've seen it before:

Penguins in the street!

What they were doing

I don't want to know,

Singing and gluingPennies on Moe.

They jumped through the trees

And swinging with ease

They fell on their knees

In plates full of cheese.

I ran and I ran

As fast as I could.

They jumped in their van,

But that was not good.

They followed me here.

While trying to hide,

I ran up the stairs;

They followed inside.

Oh, what shall I do?

And where shall I run?

When penguins with glue

Fall down from the sun?

I gave them some ice

Then showed them the door.

They thought it was nice

And slid on the floor.

It started to melt;

The floor got all wet.

I never had dealt

With such a strange pet.

They sang and they danced

All over the house.

They tried on some pants

Then played with a mouse.

Then suddenly they

Jumped up with a start.

And I heard one say,

"Oh, no! We must part!

"Those big elephants

Are coming too near!"

They all stopped their dance

And looked up with fear

They ran out the door

And down the footpath.

Their games were no more

For elephants wrath.

They ran down the street,

So fast on their toes.

They waddled their feet

As I watched them go.

These penguins, you see,

Belong in the zoo.

They like to bug me

And entertain you.

I don't understand

Why they are so wierd,

With their little man

And elephants feared.

I hope that they don't

Come back very soon,

But get on a boat

And go to the moon.

Their presence is not

Enjoyed very much.

But inside their yacht

They are fun to watch!

THE END

                   THE PENGUINS IN MY HEAD
There are penguins in my head
Telling tales of Pastor Fred
They are jumping on the bed
Throwing streetlights

Yes, there're penguins in my brain
Washing sausage down the drain
They can sometimes be a pain
Getting bugbites

And these penguins like to sing
Every night they have a fling
Kissing bees that never sting
Having mud fights

There is one whose name is Mo
Who will always have to go
Out the door with Ojo-Shmoe
Eating stoplights

They are plugged into the wall
Bouncing crazy like a ball
And I hope they never fall
But they just might

One just peeked out of my ear
And was quickly filled with fear
From the hippo drawing near
And he turned white

They smoke CPCTC*
Which will make them climb a tree
That's so high they cannot see
The complete hight

Then they might fall down from high
And since penguins cannot fly
They will fall down with a cry
And a torn kite

What goes on inside my head
If the penguins turn all red
Veiwing elephants with dread
And with great fright?

Do they jump upon the floor
Running sideways out the door
Or just go to bed and snore
With their nightlights?

Little penguins in my brain
They are driving me insane
Doing dances in the rain
What a strange sight!

* for those of you who don't know, CPCTC is an inside joke from
geometry. It stands for "Coresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are
Congruent" (see, Mr Peer, I remembered!). As far as I know, the
penguins in my head don't do real drugs.
