The Lion and Dorothy, the Tinman and Me
Original tune
I was walking alone,
Dazed and bemused,
My house just fell out of the sky.
The munchkins advised,
But I was confused,
'cause not one could tell me quite why.
Chorus 1:
I must see the wizard,
The Wizard of Oz,
It seems to be one of
their queer little laws.
If I must see the wizard,
I'll go it alone,
Walking the highway of Oz.
She was walking alone,
The dog at her side,
And I could not think of a thing,
To say to this girl,
For I had no mind,
And I knew that I had to explain.
Chorus 2:
That we must see the wizard,
Yes,
both she and I,
And thus our great journey,
Began with a lie,
For I'm not my own creature,
And I'm not free to go,
Walking the highway of Oz.
They were walking together,
And I was alone,
For they had all left me to dry,
I needed some oiling,
Companionship too,
And it brought a tear to my eye.
Chorus 3:
(For she said) that I must see the wizard,
My heart for to find,
It seems quite amazing,
That she knew my mind,
So we’ll go see the wizard,
The three of us now,
Walking the highway of Oz.
They were walking and singing,
In the midst of my glade,
I wanted to join them, it’s true.
I made a big scene,
And I was afraid,
Until I looked up,
And saw that they knew.
Chorus 4:
That I must see the wizard,
Despite all my pride,
For I'd lacked the courage,
To go out and try,
Well I'll see the wizard,
It's easier now,
Walking the highway of Oz.
Those good days are gone now,
And Dorothy is home,
And we three of us friends now,
We no longer roam,
For I am the wizard,
And I rule with my friends by my side.
Chorus 5:
For I am the wizard,
And I know my mind,
But I never dreamed
Of the wonders I'd find,
Just Dorothy, the lion,
The Tinman and me,
Walking the highway of Oz.
