Ode to a Cold

subtitled "Sounds of Sniffling"

After "Sounds of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel

Hello Kleenex my old friend,
I need to use you once again.
Because my cold is persisting,
And my nose it is blistering.

The elision that festers in my nose,
God only knows,
Can only be cleared, with Kleenex.

Sleepless nights I've tossed alone,
My face a very painful zone.
'Neath the glare of the bathroom light,
I searched for cough syrup half the night.
And I ran out of Kleenex.

By the third day my nose was raw,
And I couldn’t believe what I saw,
When I looked into the mirror.
I confirmed my biggest fear.
I had become addicted to Kleenex.
