Religious Confusion Tango
After Tom Lehrer’s “Masochism Tango” (way after)
My sect broke away from your religion,
In what is now called a great schism,
We disagreed,
On single godhead you see,
Our God is more like a nucleism.
Our sect is now called Christianity,
Respect is paid where it once was profanity,
To say god was three,
A triple whammy,
But we think it’s been good for humanity.
And let us now not forget Islam,
For the prophet Mohammed had a vision
They read the Koran
And they aren’t big fans,
Of keeping pork or booze in the kitchen.
Bridge:
At God’s command at worship do we stand,
Our prayer books in our hands,
It’s here that we must be.
Our hearts and minds,
Just cannot be confined,
Inside dogmatic rhymes (pause) such as these . . .
So let us pay homage to Judy,
Out of a sense of cosmic duty,
Who when all this begun,
Had the sense and the fun
To go out and start her own ism.

From the old joke, "This is my friend Judy . . . she has her own religion. It's called Judaism."
