Camp Narrin

On April 15-16 we attended Camp Narrin, for our first overnighter to a camp. The girls were very excited about this adventure.

We arrived at Camp Narrin at around 10:00 am. We met the ranger, who lead us back to our troop house, Hickory Rim. We unloaded our gear, and the girls drew numbers to get assigned bunks. We broke up into 3 patrols, the raccoons, snakes and owls, for our jobs from latrine duty to kitchen duty.

We got our lunches prepared for out hike, and set out making our way down Prince Charming Staicase, a log staircase on the side of a hill, towards Lake Narrin. We had a great hike, and stopped for lunch, then headed back to Hickory Rim. We then headed to the trading post where the girls spent some money! Back at the troop house, we started on our sit-upons. They turned out really cute. We will use these again when we return to camp. After sit-upons, it was time for dinner. We had the fire going, and we cooked hotdogs as well as s'mores and roasted marshmallows. Yummy!

After dinner it was time to go to the nature center for our visit with the naturalist. We walked down Cinderella's Staircase, which is said to have close to 200 steps, it sure felt like it! They changed the place of our visit, so we ended up going around half the camp, a nice 40 minute hike. Whew! The girls got to see frogs, toads, snakes, turtles, and salamanders with 5 other troops who were spending the weekend at camp. Almost everybody wanted to hold one.

We took a flashlight hike back to Hickory Rim, where the girls got to clean up and get ready for bed. By the end of this day, they wanted to go to bed! Girls were out by 11:30. The next morning, the girls got up around 7:30-8:00 am. It was so cold that we decided against the "jungle breakfast", where girls use trail signs to find a hidden breakfast in the woods. We had a nice indoor breakfast, and the girls received a "Forest Fun" workbook, so they could go outside and do different nature activities. The girls will receive the Outdoor Adventurer and Earth and Sky try-its.

They also learned knots. It was soon time to prepare lunch. After lunch, we cleaned up and started packing up our gear. After the vehicles were loaded, and the troop house cleaned, we had a small closing ceremony and headed for home. We had a lot of fun, and hope the girls did too! We look forward to more camping trips next year. Thanks parents!
