Camp Echo Grove

On April 27-29 we attended camp at Camp Echo Grove. We had an excellent time there. Here is what we did.

We arrived at camp around 7:30 pm. Girls then received their bunk assingments and made up their beds. We then grabbed our sit-upons and flashlights and headed over to the firepit across camp were we made s'mores. After our campfire (were we spotted the Big Dipper) we went back to our troop house for free time before bed. Girls fell asleep around 12 midnight.

It would be an early rise for us though! With breakfast at 8:15 am, everyone needed to get up around 7:00 am, so all 27 of us could use the bathrooms! Breakfast consisted of ham, egg & cheese croissants, hashbrowns, cereal, milk and juice. After breakfast, girls got to work on their quilts. They picked their squares and pinned them together. We then broke up into patrols, the bears, wolves, and the raccoons. For the rest of the morning and afternoon, the girls rotated between sewing quilts, making recycled paper frames for our Science Sleuth badge, and taking nature hikes. We did break for lunch though, which was chicken in a teriaki sauce over rice (which was not a big hit with the girls!). We then proceeded back to the troop house where we made 20 something peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. We then made time for fun. We played at the playground for awhile, and everyone got an ice cream from the camp general store. We went back to the troop house and the girls watched "Freaky Friday" and relexed. We went to dinner next, beef tips over noodles, roll, veggies and brownies. After dinner we worked on our Sky Search badge. Girls learned about the constellations, stars, and moon. We learned about the star maps and how to read them. Girls were really interested in their birth signs and the constellations. After badge work, it was time for the hay ride! We headed over to the office were we boarded the wagon , and proceeded on a 40 minute hayride. It was a bit chilly (a few kids didn't bring their warm winter coats to camp) but we all had fun. We spotted 13 deer, ducks, and lots of horses on our ride. When we got back, we went to the campfire where we had a hot dog snack and made s'mores again. We then headed back to our cabin for a little flashlight tag, "Rugrats in Paris", and finally . . . bedtime. The girls were wiped out, and didn't stay up long.

The next morning, we rose a 7:00 am, got dresses and even packed some of our gear before breakfast. This day we ate egg omelet with sausage, bacon and cheese in it, as well as fruit and cereal. We then finished up any work we had and packed up the cars to head back home.
