Throughout the years, we worked on many different activities. Try-Its, badges and recognitions are just one part of the Girl Scout program.
Their name says it all - try it. You don't have to be perfect at an activity, you just have to try.

Ready, Set, Go!

This was our very first try-it, so we decided on something that would be fairly easy. We did stretches, balanced books on our head, learned hand eye coordination, did jumping jacks and ran races.

Watching Wildlife

We did earthworm observations, learned what crumbs ants liked to eat most, and read and discussed how wild animals live and eat.

Working It Out

We completed the activities from the Brownie Handbook on conflict resolution. We learned how to keep our cool and work through problems so everybody wins!

Cookies Count

We were very excited about selling cookies! We set a goal to sell enough boxes to go horeseback riding at our councils equestrian center, Camp Innisfree Equestrian Center. We learned about manners, money and we even made posters to advertise in our school.

Manners

We learned table manners by having a tea party, phone manners by talking on play phones, we were taught the proper way to introduce yourself to others and had a "manners quiz".

Girl Scout Ways

We went over the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law, and to see what they mean to us. We went over the special Girl Scout hand signs, adn microwaved s'mores. Yummy!

Animals

We worked on this try-it at the Madison Heights Nature Center. We went on a nature walk throught the woods, then inside the center we watched a movie on animals, and finally we got to meet some of the animals that live there.

Art To Wear

We had a fun time creating out own tie dye nightshirts for our sleepover. We also made play dough for beads, papier mache bracelets and masks.

Movers

We made wind wheels and circle gliders, completed a weather crossword puzzle, and read about wind, clouds and rain.

Outdoor Fun

We started off by making outdoor snacks, "Ants on a Log". We then went outside and girls did an Ecology Hunt and a Touch, Smell, Listen exercise. Girls then found an item for rubbings and we traded with other girls to get a lot of different looks.

Music

We moved to the music by listening to different types of music, we sang songs, and did a music quiz. Girls also made their own instruments, kazoo's.

Dancercize

Some of the girls attended the "Nutcracker Ballet", but for the ones who didn't, we read the story from a book and listened to the music on a cd. Girls did some light aerobics, played folllow the leader, and did animal moves.

My Body

The girls took their fingerprints from a table, tested their brain power with hand eye coordination, tested their reflexes with the knee jerk test, and everyone heard their heart beat and took their pulses.

Play

Girls learned many different games from all over the world. They played games from England, the United States, Sudan, Japan, Sweden, and Zimbabwe.

Outdoor Adventurer

Girls visited Camp Narrin for a great weekend. We did a nature hike through the woods, and dressed properly for the weather.

Earth and Sky

We learned about the soil by inspecting it with magifying glasses. We learned about erosion, roots and the animals that live in it. We also studied the sky and our air.

Around The World

Girls learned about Brownies in Ireland, and looked at the world from magazines. They each studied a country, and presented a small report to the troop.

Junior Recognitions

Jeweler

Girls made jeweler out of clay and painted it, we made jewelry boxes, learned about different kinds of stones and jewels and our own birthstones, and learned symbolism in jewelry while making friendship bracelets.

My Self-Esteem~Write Away

We started our own journals that we will write in at every meeting, learned about books, and self-esteem, body image, and goals. We also made our own autobiographies.

Horse Lover

We studies horse safety and Girl Scout regulations before setting out on our own adventure at the horse stables. We learned about grooming tools, horse tack and saddles, and horse anatomy. We learned more proper ways to mount, ride and dismount horses also.

Junior Citizen~Citizens Near and Far

We learned about citizenship and being good neighbors. We learned of our rights and responsibilities, like voting. We studied the recent presidential election and our future president, and wrote laws for out own cities. We made plans for a service project too.

Cookie Connection~Cookies Count

We worked on setting goals for this years sales and what we would like to do with our money. We talked about manners and how to do the job and have fun, as well as presenting ourselves right to advertise the cookies as well as Girl Scouts.

Toymaker

We made our own stuffed animals at our slumber party and dressed them in Junior vests. We learned the history of different games such as Monopoly and jigsaw puzzles, and the history of the teddy bear. We created our own games and made advertisements for them, to get people interested in our game.

Sky Search

We worked on this at camp, where we seen the Big Dipper on a starry night. We learned how to use a star map, and could point out differnt constellations. We learned about the nine planets, and what life would be like on them. We also learned about the moon and it's surface, as well as taking a moonlit walk at night.

Fun And Fit

This badge was all about a healthy you. We learned about warming up and cooling down while doing exercise routines, and took a trip to the local kickboxing club. We learned about healthy eating and even the proper type and fit for sheos.

Looking Your Best

This badge was about taking care of your appearance and body. Girls learned about make-up and cleanliness of the face and hair. We learned how to braid and experimented with colors.

Global Awareness

This badge helped us learn about the world around us, and then we chose the country of Venezuela to learn about and take to a Thinking Day event where we could "visit" other countries and sample there lives and food.

Let's Get Cooking

We were taught different cooking techniques, and the safe and proper way to prepare different healthy meals. We made a taco dinner, and eggs for breakfast. We also learned about keeping the kitchen and our hands clean and sanitized.

United We Stand

We found out what makes the United States a unique place to live by learning about our countries different freedoms and roots. We learned flag etiquete and placement, as well as history.

Theater

Our theater badge helped us create, prepare, and perform in different skits. We watched the musical "Cats", had our make-up done like them, did a skit night at camp, and learned different requirements for acting.
