Our Year 1998/1999

This year Brownie Troop 1459 did many different things, and attended quite a few trips. No matter what we did, we most of all tried to have fun!

9/15/98 First Meeting
Our parents registered us for our first year of Brownies. We made name tags for our Kaper Chart, we learned about try-its, we read "The Brownie Story" and sang "The Brownie Smile Song".

9/29/98 Ready, Set, Go!
We worked on and completed this try-it. Calendar/Nut/Magazine Sales.

10/13/98 Watching Wildlife
We worked on and completed this try-it.

10/27/98 Yates Cider Mill
We watched a movie on how cider is made,and then got to see them actually make it at the cider mill. We had donuts, cider, and apples and some kids even picked pumpkins.

11/10/98 Working It Out
We worked on and completed this try-it. Talked about and planned our Investiture and Rededication Ceremony.

11/21/98 Community Service
We planted daffodil bulbs at our school, and picked up trash on our playground.

11/24/98 Investiture and Rededication Ceremony
We made candles out of toilet paper rolls and construction paper for our "candle lighting" ceremony. Parents arrived. Welcoming. Candle Lighting Ceremony. Brownie Woods Ceremony. Certificates and Patches.

12/8/98 Krogers - Good Food
We toured Krogers grocery store to learn about fruits and vegetables in their "Five A Day" program. We prepared snacks, and received a children's cookbook and magnet to keep track of our daily eating.

12/15/98 Good Food
We worked on and completed this try-it. Cookie Sales. Christmas presents.

2/9/99 Showcase Cinema
We went to the movies and seen "A Bug's Life". We had popcorn and a good time!

2/23/99 Thinking Day
For Thinking Day, we studied life in Mexico. We had Mexican food - tacos, chips and salsa, and Mexican Wedding Cakes. Listened to Spanish-style music and made maracas. We also sent out postcards to other troops here in the United States to let them know we were "thinking" about them.

3/10/99 Girl Scout Ways
Since this was Girl Scout Week, we studied why girl scouts are so special. We worked on and completed this try-it.

3/23/99 Madison Heights Nature Center - Animals
We went on a field trip to the nature center and we seen lots of new and interesting things. We went on a nature walk, and even got to see some animals. We worked on and completed this try-it.

4/13/99 Art To Wear
We made tie dye night shirts in preparation for our sleep over.

4/16/99 1st Annual Brownie Slumber Party
We played games, made picture frames, square danced, ate pizza, watched movies, wore our tie dyed night shirts and finally . . . we went to sleep.

4/27/99 Art To Wear
We finished up the rest of our try-it, and talked about our trip to the equestrian center.

5/8/99 Camp Innisfree Equestrian Center
Took an all day trip to our councils equestrian center. What a great place!! We took a Vet Science class and learned about many different animals. Then we attended our Horse Sampler class, where a horse was in our classroom. We learned how to saddle up a horse and finally we got to ride in the indoor arena. It was raining outside.

5/11/99 Family, Friends, and Neighbors
We worked on activities from the Brownie Handbook. These skills will help us relate to others and develope an increased respect for the people around us.

5/25/99 Movers
Worked on and completed this try-it. Made a troop banner to carry in the parade.

5/31/99 Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade
It rained that morning really hard, but a few of the girls showed up. By the time we got downtown for the parade, the rain had stopped and we had a great time. The girls marched proudly in their brownie uniforms and we all carried U.S. flags, as well as our banner.

6/15/99 Starr/Jaycee Park - End of the Year Party
Our end of the year party was great. We played games, painted faces and nails, played water balloon basketball, had pizza, pop, and presents too. End of the year awards were given out to the girls, as well as thank you awards to some of our special parents who helped us out during the year.
