This year Cadette Troop 1459 did many different things, all through it, learning to be Cadettes!
9/23/03 First Meeting
We talked about this coming year, and some of our program goals.
10/7/03 Paper Works
We started work on this badge, by doing origami and monograms.
10/21/03 Paper Works
We paper-mached wooded trays with designed tissue paper.
10/26/03 Cedar Point Halloweekends
We went for the day to Cedar Point, where we rode roller coasters, went into haunted houses,
shopped and ate lots of delicious foods.
11/4/03 Paper Works
We finished up this badge with bookwork, painting our paper mached trays and finishing our paper monograms.
11/18/03 Creative Cooking
We learned about the food pyrimid, labels on food, old and new ways of cooking and did a food poll.
11/22/03 Turkey Bowl
An NSU event planned by our neighborhood, girls were invited to go bowling, and eat lunch,
the winner trying to out-bowl Ranger Al from out camp.
12/2/03 Creative Cooking
We chose a cuisine and recipes for our meals we would be making on our overnight trip to Frankenmuth.
12/16/03 Christmas Party
We did a service project of collecting supplies for the military troops stationed overseas in Iraq.
Girls also were secret santas to each other, we make ornaments and had snacks.
1/13/04 Dollars and Sense
We worked on parts of this badge, including credit and debit, the story of money and dollars and cents.
1/16/04 - 1/17/04 Frankenmuth
We traveled to this German inspired town, where we spent the night and cooked for our Creative Cooking badge.
The next day we headed out for shopping, a full chicken dinner at Bavarian Inn, pretzel making, fudge making and fun.
1/27/04 Folk Art
We made paper beads and bracelets from string.
2/10/04 Folk Art
We went over how quilts are put together and make one of our own, using wallpaper samples and pieced
them together to make one big quilt. We also went over folk tales, and even heard some folk music.
2/24/04 Cranbrook Science Center - Digging Through the Past
We took a trip to the science center where we learned about the earth, and uncovering the past, we did
a fossil dig, and talked to people in this career path..
3/23/04 Textile Arts
We shadowed an art professional, who showed us textile samples, and taught us the procedure for making yarn in weaving.
3/27/04 - 3/28/04 Mall Movie Mania
We had an all night movie party at the mall, where we stayed up all night watching movies like:
Cat in the Hat, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton, Cheaper By the Dozen, and Peter Pan.
4/6/04 /Textile Arts
We learned to dye fabrics with Kool Aid and started to card weave with the yarn we dyed.
4/20/04 Textile Arts - Art Studio
We took a field trip to an art studio, where we learned to weave on a floor loom. We also
put items together for book marks as a service project.
4/30/04-5/2/04 Great Bear Lodge
We went to Great Bear Lodge in Ohio for our "camping" trip this year. We stayed on lodge rooms,
had tons of fun at the indoor water park for two days, went out for dinner, shopped
and played video games and seen "Haunted Mansion".
5/4/04 Meeting
We got together for a little goodbye to one of our girls who was moving.
5/18/04 Horse Sense
We learned horse anatomy, took a knowledge quiz, learned facial markings, leg markings, and saddle and bridle parts.
6/1/04 End of the Year Picnic - VFW Park
We handed out our final badges and patches as well as hung out and made ice cream sundaes.
6/11/04 Pontiac Lake Riding Stables
To finish up our year, we went horseback riding and learned more about our favorite animal,
horses. We also learned about feed, grooming and saddles and bridles. We had a
hotdog cook out and made s'mores too.
