Unloved Chapter 1 By: Lady of Earth E-mail: kawaii_lady@fushigiyuugi.net Edited by: Jo Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon. Young Princess Serenity watched her mother mournfully, close to tears. She had just received a very good mark for her art lesson, Nevertheless, she was not happy. She tried to show her mother the painting she had worked so hard on, the one she worked days and days to make her mother proud, but her mother had to go see to her older brother's training. She watched her brother displaying his powers to their mother. He was certainly powerful. Her mother beamed with pride as she watched her son beat every other contestant in the competition. All Serenity could do was watch from far away. "Go to the gardens Serenity, you're only a nuisance." Her mother's words rang inside her head. "Poor little Princess Serenity, did your mommy ignored you again?" The words of Princess Tryta, her brother's fiancée cut through her like a knife. "Serenity, go away! You're only going to ruin my concentration!" Her brother had yelled when she'd inched closer to the training quad. She watched her brother silently, then looked at her drawing in her hand. She let it go, let the wind carry it away, as a tear slid down her cheek. The Moon Goddess Selene had heard the cry of the small Princess. Her eyes grew sad as she watched the little girl struggle not to cry, but seeing her painting, she got an idea. With a wave of her hand, a red rose appeared in her right hand. She closed her left hand over the rose and cast her spell. Opening her eyes, she looked towards space. Slowly, she opened her hands. The rose was gone and only its petals were left. And one by one, the petals began to float in the air and were lifted up. With a breeze of wind, it carried away the painting that the young Princess made. Selene smiled lovingly as she watched the drawing fly away. And as she did so, she began another spell. "Now, we shall wait. Be brave my child." Said the Goddess, before she disappeared with a white mist. In Earth, Prince Endymion was watching his Generals with their training. 'It's not fair! They're as old as I am, but they get to practice while I have to sit and watch!' A chilly wind breezed by making him shudder. Out of nowhere, carried by the wind, was a paper. He caught it, then looked at it. It was a painting. A very good painting. It was a picture of a beautiful garden. Under a tree in the garden, stood a young girl. She had her hair with two buns on top of her head. There was something about her that made him want to go into the picture and comfort her. At the bottom of the page, was written, To Mama, I hope you like it. I worked really hard on this. All my love, S. So simple and so sincere. It touched his heart. He ran inside, taking the drawing with him. 'I'll find out who drew this! I'll find out one day!' He swore to the Moon. As he did this, he did not see Selene smiling down and nodding her head. "It is done." She whispered softly. Whispers in the wind, No one there to call, Spending life alone, And the future feels so cold. Most of life unloved, Most of life in tears, May a light shine and guide, Through the pain and the sorrow. Let my wish come true, Please, voices in the wind, Goddess of the Moon, Please send me my guiding star. Send it to me tonight, And send me love tomorrow. [Star by Mee Mee (1996)] Six Years Later.... Serenity was sitting under the tree in the garden. Her friends, the Senshi had to go to training. Every afternoon she would wait patiently under the tree and wait for her friends. Sometimes she could wait for a long time, but she wouldn't mind, for she loved talking with her friends. They treated her equally and see her as herself, not a nuisance. As she toyed with the rose in her hand, she could see Venus and Mercury approaching. She waved at them, and they waved back, smiling broadly. "Hello, Venus. Hello, Mercury." She said. "Hello, Serenity." Said Mercury. "Hello, Princess." Said Venus. Then, they sat down under the tree next to Serenity. "Why aren't you with your mother and brother, Serin?" Asked Venus. Serenity smiled sadly. "Mother says I shouldn't bother them because they have more important things to do." She answered. Venus sighed. "I'm sure they're just busy with the preparations." She said. Serenity gave a little shrug. "I'm used to being left out of their conversations and everything else, Venus." Serenity said. She sounded as if she didn't care, as if she was used to it, but Mercury and Venus saw the sadness that was hidden deep inside her blue eyes. Venus and Mercury watched the Princess sadly. She would seem so fragile sometimes, but after what she'd been Through with her Mother and brother, she must be pretty strong. But before Venus could say anything else, Jupiter and Mars sat down next to them. "Guess what, guess what, guess what!" Exclaimed a breathless Mars. "What?" Asked Venus. "The Prince of Earth and his Generals are coming for a visit tomorrow!" Jupiter cried. "No way!" Shrieked Venus. Serenity laughed. Venus was usually the serious one. "Yes and they're throwing a ball on Friday in the honor of the Prince!" Exclaimed Mars. The girls shrieked, except for Serenity who she looked confused. "Who are the Earth Prince and the Generals?" She asked. "He's the most handsome guy in this side of the universe and the Generals are his cute guardians. You met one of them, Jadeite, last week, remember?" Venus said. Jupiter rolled her eyes. "Of course she remembered, Venus! Serenity spent the whole time with him! Jupiter exclaimed. "How can anyone not like Jadeite? He's funny and kind. He's very understanding too. I loved talking with him. I hope he's coming as well." She said, but her curiosity got the best of her. "But this Prince," She began, "What is he like?" She asked, filled with curiosity. The Senshi looked at her, then exchanged smiles. "Why, Princess! You're not interested in a GUY, are you?" Asked Mars slyly. Serenity blushed. "I was just curious that's all, I mean you make him sound so special." Serenity said, still blushing. The Senshi giggled, then erupted in shrieks of laughter. Serenity blushed some more, only making the teasing worse. The Inners sat down on the grass after Serenity was called for her afternoon lessons. "She's such a sweet girl. It's a shame her mother doesn't realize what a wonderful and caring person she is." Jupiter said. Mars nodded. "But don't think she's not strong. She might seem fragile in the outside, but she's strong in the Inside. After all, she put up with her mother's chiding all These years." Mars said. Mercury smiled sadly. "I sure wish someone could love our Princess." She said. Jupiter nodded. "It kills me to see her unloved like that." Jupiter said. "She's not unloved, she's loved very much by us and the people." Mars said, with a look at Jupiter. She didn't like Jupiter's comment at all. 'Serenity is loved by everyone, it's just her stubborn mother and spoiled brother who don't see it.' "Mars is right, she is loved by us. But I don't think it's enough." Mercury said. "The Princess needs someone to take care of her, someone who can love her...more," Jupiter said. "Maybe this Earth Prince could bring us some answers." Venus said. Jupiter brightened. "That's right! The Princess might fall in love with him!" Jupiter said excitedly. "But she might be afraid to be loved, after all, she has never been loved by anyone else than us." Mercury said. Mars looked deep in thought. "We could make it work. I heard that the Earth Prince is very kind and caring, very much like our Princess. I don't think he'd ever break her heart." Mars said after a while. "I sure hope so." Jupiter said. "Yes, the last thing Serenity needs right now is a broken heart." Venus said. They all fell silent. 'I really shouldn't have asked too many questions.' Serenity thought. 'But this Prince of Earth sounds so fascinating, I couldn't resist.' She thought, as she continued to write. 'There I go again, thinking about him. I should stop. I don't even know him!' She thought. Then, as she looked outside the window, she could see her mother and brother walking, talking, laughing. She sighed. 'I really wish I could please you, Mother.' She thought. 'But I've tried my best with everything, and still you won't even even spare a moment for me. I know I'm not as strong as Satoru but couldn't you love me too?' She asked silently as she watched the two. "Princess Serenity?" Asked her tutor. Serenity glanced up at him. Her tutor was surprised to find silent Tears running down her cheeks. "I'm sorry, Mr. Maudi, but I can't Seem to concentrate today." She said slowly. Her tutor smiled in understanding. "You might as well go to the gardens, Princess. It will make you feel much better." He said. Serenity nodded, wiping her tears away. She smiled gratefully at her tutor and walked out of the room to her rose garden. Earth, the same time Endymion watched the leaves falling from the trees. He felt peaceful. He looked down at the drawing. It was old now, the colors faded, but he still kept it. He had kept it over the years and had tried to find who had made it, but questions were left unanswered, even though he searched everywhere for their answers. Someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and found Kunzite. "Daydreaming again, my liege?" He asked. Endymion smiled. "Just thinking." He said. Kunzite nodded. "Ready for our trip to the Moon?" Kunzite asked. Endymion shrugged. "Father insisted, so I think so." He said. "It's for the sake of the Kingdom. Plus, it's good for our alliance with the Moon." Kunzite said. Endymion sighed, then said, "I just don't see how meeting the Moon Princess could strengthen the alliance. Father is planning something with this. I know him." "It won't be bad, Endy. I've met Serenity, she is enchanting." Spoke up Jadeite. "Jadeite! Don't be so informal with the Prince! And this is a private discussion!" Kunzite exclaimed. Endymion brushed him off. "I prefer that to 'Prince' or 'my liege', Kunz. Besides, it was an open discussion, he could listen." He said calmly. Kunzite gave an exasperated sigh. "Is she really that enchanting?" Asked Endymion. Jadeite nodded. "But she's terribly shy." He said. Endymion raised his eyebrow. "I thought Princesses were suppose to be spoiled brats." He said. Jadeite shook his head. "Not this one, it seems that she's been Ignored by her mother." He explained. "How so?" Endymion asked. "Her brother, Prince Satoru is the chosen heir to the Imperium Crystal and her mother is very proud of him. Since Serenity is a girl and according to the Queen, has no real talents, she doesn't bother with her." Jadeite explained. "That's very sad." Nephrite said. The three almost jumped at that. Nephrite had a unique talent of sneaking at people. "Eavesdropping, Neph?" Asked Kunzite dryly. Nephrite shook his head. "She's not only lonely, it seems that she's ill a lot, so her mother thinks she's useless." Nephrite explained. Endymion looked thoughtful. He felt sorry for her. "She's very pretty, Endy. She's also kind." Jadeite said. "The stars told me about her, she's got a good heart and filled with courage." Nephrite said. "You're making me look forward into meeting this poor little Princess." Endymion said. Jadeite smiled. Earth, day of the meeting "Endymion, I want you to know that I am counting on you today. You are going to the Moon in the name of Earth. We want to make a good impression to Serenity and her Kingdom, So I expect no trouble from you." King Francis told his son. 'It would also be wonderful if he were to marry the Moon Princess. Our alliance would grow stronger and I will rest better knowing he's settled down.' He thought. Endymion bowed before him. "Don't worry father, I won't fail you." He said. The King smiled. 'Let's hope so.' The King thought. "Now off you go, I don't want you to be late!" He said. Endymion smiled at his father. "We're off father, we're off!" he said with a chuckle. Moon, about the same time "Princess, the prince will be arriving soon." Luna warned. Serenity nodded. "I'll check the time every five minutes, Luna." Serenity promised. Luna nodded, pleased by her answer. 'I wouldn't want to upset mother again. The last time I was late, she didn't bother to call me daughter, she simply said I was a servant who worked in the palace.' Serenity thought. 'Is that really what you think of me mother? Just a humiliation?" She asked herself. She felt the tears in her eyes. 'I'm sorry mother. I'm sorry I will never be as strong as Satoru. I'm sorry that I always put you to shame. I'm sorry that I'm not the perfect daughter, but what am I to do, mother? I'm only human! I can never be perfect! I'm sorry that I'm not you mother.' Serenity thought before she walked sadly to the gardens. Luna watched as the Princess walked on. She shook her head sadly. "Serenity, dear Serenity, how can you forget such a caring daughter? She needs your love too, my Queen. Poor, poor Princess." Luna said softly. Moon Kingdom, an hour later. Serenity ran from the garden. She had lost track of time and had forgotten that the Prince and his General was suppose to come at 11:00 that day. It was already 11:03 and she was suppose to be there 10 minutes early. She ran all the way to the throne room. Then, as she was entering, she had hit someone straight on the chest. "I'm sorry I wasn't...." She didn't finished because she found herself looking into the most hypnotizing blue eyes she has ever seen. The man had jet-black hair and the smile on his lips was so sincere, she thought she would blush by it. "Serenity!" A loud voice broke her out of her trance. "You are late and look at what your clumsiness has done!! Apologize!" Her mother said sternly. She gulped. Then she looked at the man more carefully. She thought she would just curl up and die. She didn't even notice he was wearing the symbol of the Earth Kingdom royalty. She stared at the floor. "I beg your pardon, Prince Endymion." She said. "No need, Princess. It was my fault as well, I should be the one apologizing." He said. 'He sounded so sweet and sincere,' she thought. Queen Serenity sighed and shook her head. "I am leaving. I cannot stand to watch you make a fool out of yourself much longer, Serenity. Pardon me, Endymion." She said. Serenity bit her lip. She noticed her brother's disapproving scowl. 'He's probably thinking I'm going to mess this whole thing up.' She thought as she saw her brother leave with her mother. Venus appeared as her mother left. "I was looking everywhere, Serenity. I thought you got eaten by wolves or something!" She said. She had to make the Princess smile somehow. 'The Queen shouldn't have put her down like that. Can't she see that her daughter is trying her best?' Venus thought. Serenity smiled. "That wouldn't happen, Venus. I was just at the garden." She explained. "And we know how long you can stay under that tree." Mars teased. Serenity blushed slightly. Jupiter came to her rescue. "Leave the Princess alone, Mars." She said. 'Way to go Mars. Embarrassing her in front of the Prince would NOT make things better!' Jupiter thought. She glared at Mars. Mars backed off and that was when Serenity noticed Jadeite. "Hello, Serenity!" Jadeite said. She beamed. "Hello, Jadeite!" She said back. 'Her mother's at it again. I can't believe this. And in front of the Prince too!' Jadeite thought, but he kept his cool. Endymion had seen how Serenity's face looked when the Queen and Her brother left. His jaw clenched when he saw Serenity Was close to tears. "Let me introduce you to the Generals and the Prince, since you missed the introductions." Jadeite teased. Serenity blushed. Mars rolled her eyes. "Such a charmer." She said sarcastically. Jadeite paid no attention to her. "Serenity, meet General Zoicite, our intellectual. General Nephrite, our astronomer and my best friend, our mighty leader, General Kunzite whom I'm suppose to suck up to right now...." He didn't finish because Kunzite glared at him and whacked him on the head. The girls laughed. "I don't think I want an introduction for me then." Endymion said to Jadeite. Jadeite grinned. "You're getting one, my liege. This is our Prince, Prince Endymion also known to us as Endy though it's forbidden for us to call him that, but we call him that anyway..." He then noticed the glares that were sent his way by the four men. "OKIspoketoomuchsoI'mjustgoingotgobeforeIdie, Bye!" He said and retreated to the back of the room while the girls just laughed their heads off. 'Jadeite's kind of cute when he's like that.' Mars thought silently, but shook the thoughts out of her head. But nevertheless, Serenity saw the look on Mars' face and nearly giggled. 'This should be an interesting day!' Serenity thought. She nearly fell over when she caught Prince Endymion's eyes and he smiled at her. 'Yes, this should be a VERY interesting day indeed.' She thought, blushing. Watching them from a place far away, Selene smiled. "He's found her. Serenity will now know how it feels to be loved and to be in Love." She said, looking towards the stars. "What is that?" She asked. Her eye widened in fear as she recognized what it was. "Oh no! And just when Serenity will be happy! Oh dearest daughter, I am sorry." She said. She shook her head sadly. "But it is what Fate predicted and what Destiny wanted. I am sorry, child." Selene said as she watched the blushing face of Serenity. "Protect her Cassandra. For this is one battle that she must fight on her own." Selene said with a sigh.
