Jesus is the Rock
Rules
- Keep Your Hands And Feet To Yourself
- Be Loud When It's Time To Be Loud
- Be Quiet When It's Time To Be Quiet
- Save Your Prizes Until The End
- Have Fun!
Prize Method - Punch A Prize
I made a punch board similar to the one on "The Price is Right" where the contestant punches a circle, and pulls out a dollar amount. The difference is, the kids pull out a prize. I made it using formica, (although cardboard would work), 24 applejuice cans, duct tape, poster board and tissue paper.
If kids sit quietly, they may get a chance to punch a prize!
Game #1 - Toilet Paper Wrap
5 players stand in a huddle. Player #6 has a roll of toilet paper. Player #6 has to run around the group of 5, wrapping them in toilet paper. The first team to finish the roll of toilet paper wins! Game is played boys vs. girls. Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Dudley the Dinosour - Puppet
Dudley is a Dinosour Puppet with a bit of an attitude. He seems to think he is better than everyone else. The kids will attempt to "blow Dudley off the stage" by yelling a statement. Today's saying is: "Jesus is the Rock!" I usually let the kids have 3 tries at getting him off the stage. Each time they yell, Dudley sways back and forth as if it were very windy. To add excitement, I let the excitement go on for 2 or 3 days (programs) And finally, the kids are loud enough, and Dudley is blown off the stage. (disappears behind the puppet stage) To add some fun, the kids try things like yelling as quiet as they can, or doing a Silent Screem, to try and confuse Dudley. This helps emphasize today's theme.
Big Head Story - "The Tool Men"
This Story is Presented with the use of 2 Big Heads, dressed as tool men.
Someone narates the story (with enthusiasm) because Big Heads Never Talk!
Props needed: spray bottles of water, tool boxes, hammer, wood
Once there were two men. They were tool men. They had lots of tools that helped them build all kinds of things. Most of all, the tool men built houses.
The first man was a very foolish tool man. he didn't make very good plans about what he was going to build. He just decided that he was going to build a house one day, and that's just what he started to do.
The foolish tool man got some wood, and a hammer and nails so he could start to build a house. He looked around for a place to build his house and he found a nice spot on the beach. There was sand all around! It was the perfect spot because he didn't have to walk very far to go for a swim in the ocean. So, the foolish tool man started to build his house right there on the sand. First he built the floor, then the walls and then he put a roof on top. When he was all done, he stood back and looked at the house because it sure did look nice!
Then all of a sudden a storm came. The wind started to blow and it started to pour rain. (Prop people spray kids with spray bottles) It rained and rained and rained. It rained so much that the water became a flood. The storm got worse and worse.
The foolish man was sitting inside his house while it was storming outside. All of a sudden, CRASH! His house fell flat to the ground!
The second tool man's name was Jim. Jim the Tool Man. He was a very smart tool man! He was very careful to make his plans about building things. One day Jim the tool man decided to build a house. He gathered up some wood, and a hammer and some nails, and he began to look for a place to build his house. He found a nice spot near the mountains. He thought to himself, "this will be a great spot to build a house because it is right on top of a flat, solid rock." So Jim the tool man got to work.
Jim the tool man was sitting inside his house while it was storming outside. He was smiling to himself, because he knew tht his house would not fall down. He was a smart tool man because he remembered to build his house on a rock!
Game #2 - Drink the Pop in a Bowl
Choose 5 volunteers for each team. I do one team each, boys vs. girls. Give each player a straw. Pour a 2L bottle of pop into a clear bowl. Each team needs their own 2L pop in a bowl. The first team to drink everything in the bowl wins. No hands are allowed! Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Einstein the Puppet - Introduces the Memory Verse
Einstein is an elephant puppet that...always...forgets! The words to the memory verse are on pieces of paper, that Einstein pretends to saw off, as he carelessly works on a woodworking project behind the stage. As he works, sound effects such as hammering, and powertools are effective. One by one, the words to the Memory Verse fall off the puppet stage.
Today's Memory Verse is: "Jesus is the way and the truth and the life." John 14:6
Put each word on a separate sheet of paper.
The leader helps kids say the verse several times before all the words fall off. Kids say the verse louder, and louder each time.
Salvation Message
Take a few minutes to explain to kids that Jesus is the rock. He will never change, no matter what they do, or how they act. Jesus will always love them, and always forgive them. Jesus is the only way to get to heaven. He is the way, the truth and the life.
Close in prayer
Give the kids an opportunity to say a "repeat after me prayer". Another options is for the leader to lead in prayer, thanking God for the kids and what they learned today.
