Game #1 - Candle In the Hat
You will need one plastic hat for every 2 players. We used 4 hats. I went to a garage sale and got 2 plastic fireman hats, and 2 plastic construction hats. Using duct tape, attach a candle to the top of each hat. You will also need 4 squirt bottles, or good water guns. Choose 2 girls and 2 boys who don't mind getting soaked! Sit these players on chairs facing the audience. Put garbage bags over them, to protect their clothes. Have them each put on a hat with a candle attached. Choose 2 more girls and 2 more boys. Give them each a squirt bottle. They should stand aprox. 10 feet from the people with the hats on. Light the candles. Warn the players with the hats on, that they must sit very still. On "Go", the people with the squirt bottles start to shoot. The first person to get the candle out with the water squirter wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while the game is being played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when someone wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team. This is a good time to hand out incentives!
Big Head Story - Esther
Esther was the Queen of a great country. She was married to the King of the Land. Esther was a wonderful Queen. Everyone loved her.
Esther was going around, doing what Queen's do, having fancy parties, visiting sick people, and poor people and other stuff like that.
Esther's Husband, the King had an advisor. His name was Haman. His job was to tell the king smart ideas, so the king could do them. Haman told lies about a group of people living in the King's Country. The group was called Jewish People. Haman got the King to pass a law to kill all the Jewish people. But there was one BIG problem. Esther, the King's wife was Jewish!
When Esther found out about the law, she freaked out!!! She not only thought about herself dying, but all her friends and family would die too!
So, what did Esther do? She prayed to God for help! She weeped and wailed before God! She cried out and asked Him to do something!! God told her to go talk to the king.
So she got off her knees and went to see her husband, the King. She told him about Haman's lies and that the new law he had passed would kill her.
The King was flabbergasted!!! He was so sorry that he had made this terrible law!! So, he changed it. So instead of killing the Jewish people, he took care of Haman instead.
So Esther thanked the King for being so nice, and she thanked God for helping her.
Game #2 - Ping Pong Ball Game
You will need 2 ping pong balls and one straw for each player. Choose 5 girls and 5 boys. On "Go" the first player uses their straw to blow the ping pong ball across the floor, to the finish line. Then they can pick up the ball, and run back and give it to the next player, who will do the same thing. The first team to be sitting in a straight line after everyone's had a turn wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while the game is being played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when someone wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team. This is a good time to hand out incentives!
Memory Verse
God is always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
Make 12 crowns using construction paper. Write each word on a crown. Choose 12 volunteers to wear the crowns. Have the kids say the verse several times. One by one, have the kids with crowns on turn around, so you can't see their word any more. Repeat the verse with the kids after each crown is turned around.
Salvation Message
Choose a volunteer to help you. Whisper to them that you will be giving them a gift, but no matter what, they are to say "No". Before the program begins, wrap up a box with a really great prize in it. Try to give the gift to the volunteer. Act surprised that they don't want it, and try to give it to them. Try about 3 times. Then whisper to your volunteer that this time, you want them to take the gift and unwrap it. Give the gift to the volunteer. Everyone will see that what's inside was something really great! Explain to the kids that God gave us a gift, Jesus! But it is up to us to take the gift. He won't force us to take it, but he will keep trying to give it to us until we accept it. If we would just accept it, we would find out that Jesus is really great, the best gift we could ever get!
Lead the kids in a repeat after me prayer.
