Love Your Neighbour
Rules
- Keep Your Hands And Feet To Yourself
- Be Loud When It's Time To Be Loud
- Be Quiet When It's Time To Be Quiet
- Save Your Prizes Until The End
- Have Fun!
Prize Method - Punch A Prize
I made a punch board similar to the one on "The Price is Right" where the contestant punches a circle, and pulls out a dollar amount. The difference is, the kids pull out a prize. I made it using formica, (although cardboard would work), 24 applejuice cans, duct tape, poster board and tissue paper.
If kids sit quietly, they may get a chance to punch a prize!
Game #1 - Icing Sugar Game
You will need one plate for each player. I usually play with 3 girls and 3 boys. Before the program begins, place 5 lifesaver candies or other small hard candies on the plate. Cover with a generous amount of icing sugar. On "GO" each player must find all 5 candies on the plate, only using their mouth. Hands must be behind their back. Players can spit out the candies once they find them, so we can tell who is the winner! The first player to have all five candies spit out beside the plate wins! Play upbeat, energetic music during the game. Start the music on "Go" and stop it when someone wins the game. Encourage the kids to cheer loudly for their team. This is a good time to hand out incentives for kids who are followin rule #2 from above!
Puppet Skit - The Golden Rule
Einstein is an elephant puppet who always forgets. The puppet skit involves the kids leader and Einstein the puppet.
Einstein enters, singing to himself, facing the wrong direction.
Einstein: Hey, where did everybody go?
Leader: We're over here Einstein.
Einstein: Over where? I don't see any body!
Leader: Einstein, we are over HERE! You are facing the wrong way!
Einstein: (turns to face audience) Oh! why didn't you tell me you were over here!
Leader: Einstein, you are just in time! We are about to talk about The Golden Rule.
Einstein: The Golden Room? Oh Boy! I've always wanted to see a room that was all gold. It must be expensive!
Leader: No Einstien, not the golden room, The Golden Rule!
Einstein: The Golden School? Yuk! I hate school! I'm not going there even if it is gold.
Leader: EINSTEIN! I' talking about THE GOLDEN RULE!
Einstein: Rule? You mean we have to learn another rule? Don't you think we have enough already? Keep your hands and feet to your self. Be loud when...
Leader: No, No Einstein, It's not one of the rules on our list, but it's a rule we should try to remember everyday. Now if you could be quiet for a second, I could tell you what it is!
Einstein: O.K.
Leader: The Golden Rule means you shoud treat others like how you would like to be treated.
Einstein: I like people to bring me lots of presents!
Leader: O.K. so you like people to treat you nice.
Einstein: No thanks, I don't like mice.
Leader: I said treat you Nice, not give you Mice!
Einstein: Oops! I forgot!
Leader: So Einstein, if you want other people to be nice to you, you have to be nice to them.
Einstein: But what if they're mean and nasty! Do I get to be mean and nasty too?
Leader: No, because you are supposed to treat others how you would like to be treated. Even if they are mean to you, you should still treat them how you would like to be treated, with love and kindness.
Einstein: That sure is hard. Rules are usually hard.
Leader: All you need to do is practice! Then it get's easier every time!
Einstein: Great idea! I'll go tell my mom she looks nice today, and my dad that he makes nice pies, and my grandma.....(Exit Einstein)
Leader: See ya later Einstein....
Dudley the Dinosour - Puppet
Dudley is a Dinosour Puppet with a bit of an attitude. He seems to think he is better than everyone else. The kids will attempt to "blow Dudley off the stage" by yelling a statement. Today's saying is: "Love Your Neighbour!" I usually let the kids have 3 tries at getting him off the stage. Each time they yell, Dudley sways back and forth as if it were very windy. To add excitement, I let the excitement go on for 2 or 3 days (programs) And finally, the kids are loud enough, and Dudley is blown off the stage. (disappears behind the puppet stage) To add some fun, the kids try things like yelling as quiet as they can, or doing a Silent Screem, to try and confuse Dudley. This helps emphasize today's theme.
Bible Story - Love Your Neighbour
Today's story is from the very popular video series "VeggieTales". It is found on the tape, "Are You My Neighbor?" and is titled, "The Story of Flibber-o-loo" It is the story about the Good Samaritan, but done in "Veggie" style. It is an excellent way of presenting this story. It is aproximately 15 minutes long.
Memory Verse - with Einstein the Puppet
Today's Verse is: "Always try to be kind to each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:15"
Put each word on a separate piece of paper. The leader can have the kids read the verse together, a few times.
Einstein: (starts taking the words away.)
Leader: Einstein, what are you doing?
Einstein: Oh, nothing...(Einstein takes a second word away.)
Leader: Why are you taking away the words to the Memory Verse?
Einstein: Well, you said, treat others the way that I like to be treated.
Leader: Right....
Einstein: So I'm giving these words to people as presents! That way maybe they will give me presents too! (Einstein takes another word)
Leader: I'm not sure it works quite that way..........Boys and girls, we better say the verse a few more times before Einstein takes all the words away....
Einstein: (takes another word away.) (talks to himself quietly while kids say the verse a few more times.) I like lots of different presents. I like baseball hats, and a fishing pole, and a new....
The leader can continue to say the verse with the kids until they have it memorized, and all the words have been taken away. To add a little fun, the kids can work on saying the verse louder, and louder each time!
Salvation Message
It is important to present a Salvation Message each time you have an outreach program, because you may have kids visiting, or who are there for the first time. Be sure to make the most of every opportunity! Tell kids, in a simple way that they can understand, that Jesus loves them, He died for them, and he will forgive them for the bad things they do. All they have to do is ask Him to. Help kids understand how important it is to try to live the way Jesus would want them to live!
