Rules

- Be Loud When It's Time To Be Loud
- Be Quiet When It's Time To Be Quiet
- Save Your Prizes Until The End
- Have Fun!
Prize Method - Punch A Prize
I made a punch board similar to the one on "The Price is Right" where the contestant punches a circle, and pulls out a dollar amount. The difference is, the kids pull out a prize. I made it using formica, (although cardboard would work), 24 applejuice cans, duct tape, poster board and tissue paper.
If kids sit quietly, they may get a chance to punch a prize! Prizes are handed out throughout the program for kids who are following rules #2 & #3.
Game #1 - Pudding Drop
This is a MESSY GAME! You will need to lay down a tarp, and players will need to wear garbage bag smocks to protect their clothes. Select 4 girls and 4 boys. Two players from each team lay on the ground. The other two players stand on chairs which are placed at their partner's head. Give each standing player a pudding cup and a spoon. On "Go", they open the pudding and drop puddiing into their partner's mouth. (Try at least) They must stay standing straight. (no leaning over) The player that has the most pudding in their mouth wins! This is judged by how much pudding is on their face, and around them. Have lots of paper towels handy, and help the players wash up in the washroom. Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Dudley the Dinosour - Puppet
Dudley is a Dinosour Puppet with a bit of an attitude. He seems to think he is better than everyone else. The kids will attempt to "blow Dudley off the stage" by yelling a statement. Today's saying is: "Do the Word!" I usually let the kids have 3 tries at getting him off the stage. Each time they yell, Dudley sways back and forth as if it were very windy. To add excitement, I let the excitement go on for 2 or 3 days (programs) And finally, the kids are loud enough, and Dudley is blown off the stage. (disappears behind the puppet stage) To add some fun, the kids try things like yelling as quiet as they can, or doing a Silent Screem, to try and confuse Dudley. This helps emphasize today's theme. We have been doing a week long series, and today is the final day. Dudley has been at every program this week, and today, the kids will blow him off the stage. If you are doing one program a week, the excitement has probably worn off. I would let Dudley get blown off the stage on the 3rd week of programs with him.
Getting Ready in the Morning Skit
This skit is for just plain fun! Kids love being the actors, and the rest love to watch. It is done using 2 kids, and 2 adult helpers. The kids are the people getting ready in the morning, and the adults are their hands. The kids put on housecoats, and the adults put their arms through to give the illusion that their are only two people sitting there instead of four. The two kids are sitting on chairs at a table, and the two adults kneel behind the chairs, hiding their heads under the housecoats.
Have a leader narrate a short story, describing how these two youngin's get ready in the morning. We included things like eating a bowl of cereal, brushing their teeth, wetting down their hair with a spray bottle, and brushing it. It is quite commical, as the hands can't see what they are doing, and the heads have no choice but to accept what the hands do!
Bible Story - The Sower
Today's story is shown using a clip from the video series, "The Donut Man". The song is, "The Sower", which is aprox. 3-5 minutes long. I purchased a "sampler" video which contains several songs from different Donut Man videos. It only cost $1.99! Much less expensive than a whole video! In our gym, we have a video projection machine, which makes showing a video to 150 kids possible. I'm not sure if I would use this method if I didn't have a projection machine. A regular T.V. and VCR works well for small groups, but not for large ones.
Explain the Story - Using large pictures
I drew some "stickmen" style pictures of each of the parts of the parable using crayola markers; the path, the rock, the weeds and the good soil. Then as I showed them, I explained what they meant, and added a practical application, so the kids could understand. For example, some kids weren't thinking about the story as I was talking to them. They might have been thinking about prizes, or what they would have for supper. Other kids were listening, but they would forget everything I said when they walked out the door. Other kids listen, tried really hard to change their lives but gave up when other things seemed more fun. Finally some kids were listening to me tell the story, and they went home and changed changed their behaviour.
Game #2 - Marshmellow sticking contest
Choose 5 girls and 5 boys. Give each kid a large marshmellow. The first player must lick the marshmellow, stick it to their forhead, and run to the finish line and back, to tag the next person. The next player does the same, until each player has had a turn. If the marshmellow falls off, they have to stop, sitck it back on, and continue. The first team to be sitting in a straight line wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Memory Verse
"Listen to the word AND do what it says. James 1:22"
We made up hand signals, and body language for each word in the verse. Kids had fun doing the actions as they learned the verse. You can make up your own!
Salvation Message & Close In Prayer
Today's focus was on Listening to God's word, like a farmer planting seeds, and doing what it says, letting the seed grow in good soil. Emphasize this to the kids. Allow for time to tell kids about Jesus dying on the Cross, and how they can have a new life, and grow in Him!
