Prize Method - Sucker Tree
I make a Tree shape using poster board, or coragated paper and put it overtop of a sheet of styrophome. Then I poke tons of holes everywhere. Next I fill those holes with a sucker. I colour the tips of about 5 suckers with a black marker. I insert them into the tree holes in various locations. The shape of the thing doesn't have to be a tree. I have changed it according to the season, e.g. a Snowman, a Sunshine, etc. This is how it works. During the program, if kids are sitting quietly, or being loud when it's time to be loud, I choose a few kids, now and then, to come pick a sucker. (Always have a leader supervising the kids who are picking suckers) If the sucker has a black tip, they get to choose a larger candy or prize. If it does not, they get to keep the sucker. They are reminded about rule #4, that says, Save your prizes until the end. This includes all candy prizes.
Game #1 - Pyramid Race
Select 10 players for each team. If you have a group of about 30 kids, divide your group in half, and let all the kids play. The first team to build a pyramid using all their players, (without falling over) wins. Start with the first four or five players on their hands and knees. Put the next three or four in the same position, only on the first layer of people. Continue until all the players are in the pyramid. Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Big Head Story - Don't hide the Key!
Once there was a boy named Frank. He loved to play video games. In fact he loved them so much, that all he wanted was to go to the "Super Duper Video Game Mania" Place. But the only problem was, the Super Duper place was closed because the owner had the key stolen from him. Now it was locked and no one could get in. This made Frank and lots of other boys and girls very sad because they wanted to go see the Super Duper Video Game Mania Place. But there was nothing anyone could do.
Well, a long time went by, and Frank still wished he could go into that store, just to see what it was like.
One day, a man came to Frank's door and said I have a gift for you. Frank said, "but it's not Christmas time, and it isn't even my birthday." The man said, "That's O.K. I just wanted to give this gift to you because I think you are so great!
Frank opened the gift. It was a key. But it wasn't just any key. It was the key to the Super Duper Video Game Mania Place. Frank couldn't believe it. He asked the man where he got it from. The man said, "I had to pay a very big price for it, but it was worth it, so you could have it."
Frank was so excited! But then he got scared. Most of his friends had forgotten about the Video Game place. Maybe they would think he was stupid if he still wanted to go. So Frank didn't tell anyone that he had the key. He just kept it a secret.
One day, Frank decided to go look in the windows of the Super Duper Video Game Mania Place. It looked so cool! It had the neatest games he had ever seen!
Some of Franks friends saw him looking in the window and they asked him what he was doing. Frank was a little bit scared, because he thought his friends would laugh at him. But Frank finally said, "Well, I was just looking in the windows of this really neat Video game place. Franks friends said, "What for? No one has been in there in a long time. We even forget what's in there."
Frank said, "Well, I have the key to go in."
"You do?" his friends said. "Why didn't you tell us?"
Frank told his friends that he thought they would laugh at him because no one thought the Video game place was cool any more. But Frank's friends told him, that if he knew about a really awesome place, he should not be scared to tell them because they would like to see the awesome place too!
So Frank and his friends used the key to open the door of the Super Duper Video Game Mania Place. Inside they found out it was the better than they ever imagined!
Explain the Story & Salvation Message
Take a few minutes to explain to the kids what this story means. You can talk about how no one could get to God, but Jesus paid a big price, His life, so that we could enjoy a great relationship with Him. Let the kids have an opportunity to respond with a repeat after me prayer. Explain what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. Don't get to detailed, but give the basic points.
Game #2 - Popcorn Race
You will need buckets full of popped popcorn, and two empty buckets. Also, you will need a dessert size paper plate for each player. Select 5 boys and 5 girls. The first player scoops their plate into the full bucket of popcorn. Then they hop on one foot to the finish line and pour what ever is left on their plate into their empty bucket. Then they run back & tag the next person in line, who does the same process. The team who has the most popcorn in their bucket at the finish line wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too! This game is a lot of fun, and your custodian will really love ya!
Memory Verse
Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Mark 16:15
Place each word on a separated sheet of paper. Tape each paper to a styropome cup. Place all the words in order, on a table. Then, give different volunteers a chance to try to knock off a word using a nerf ball. Each time a new volunteer is chosen, the whole group says the verse together. Continue playing until all the words are knocked down. In case time runs out, or kids are getting bored because everyone has "bad aim", then do a "Wind Storm". This is created when on the count of 3, all the kids blow as hard as they can towards the remaining words of the Memeory Verse. Then a leader runs up to the words and knocks them all over with their arms. Now all the words are knocked over due to the wind storm, and the game is over.
