  1. Keep Your Hands And Feet To Yourself

  3. Be Quiet When It's Time To Be Quiet
  4. Save Your Prizes Until The End
  5. Have Fun!

Prize Method - Sucker Tree

I make a Tree shape using poster board, or coragated paper and put it overtop of a sheet of styrophome. Then I poke tons of holes everywhere. Next I fill those holes with a sucker. I colour the tips of about 5 suckers with a black marker. I insert them into the tree holes in various locations. The shape of the thing doesn't have to be a tree. I have changed it according to the season, e.g. a Snowman, a Sunshine, etc. This is how it works. During the program, if kids are sitting quietly, or being loud when it's time to be loud, I choose a few kids, now and then, to come pick a sucker. (Always have a leader supervising the kids who are picking suckers) If the sucker has a black tip, they get to choose a larger candy or prize. If it does not, they get to keep the sucker. They are reminded about rule #4, that says, Save your prizes until the end. This includes all candy prizes.
Game #1 - Egg and Spoon Race

Select 5 players for each team. The first player is given a spoon and a plastic egg. We didn't use real ones, because they would have been a real mess to clean up. On "Go", the first player runs to the finish line and back, holding the handle of the spoon. Kids are not allowed to hold the egg on the spoon! The next player does the same thing when the first player returns. The first time to complete the process, and is sitting in a straight line, wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Bible Story - Lamp Under a Bowl

Let the kids be the actors. Dress them up in appropriate costumes using whatever you have around the house. Hint: Used clothing stores make great resources for costumes!

Bible Story - Lamp Under a Bowl

Once there was a girl named Suzy. She lived in a house. The house had no electricity. Suzy wanted to read her book, but she was having a hard time reading because it was getting dark outside.

So, Suzy went to get a candle. She lit the candle, and then put a bowl over top of the candle so that the light would only shine on her book.

Along came Suzy's mom. She was having a hard time seeing where she was going because it was dark inside the house. She saw a little light somewhere in the room, but it wasn't very bright because something was covering it. She went over to where the light was. Then she realized that it was Suzy sitting there, reading a book.

"Suzy! What are you doing?" her mom asked.
"I'm reading a book, what does it look like I'm doing?"
"Why is there a bowl over top of your candle?" her mom asked? "Can't you see that this whole room is dark?" If you would take the bowl off the candle, then everyone could see where they were going.
Then Suzy said, "But if I take the bowl off the candle, there won't be enough light for me to read my book."
Suzy's mom said, "Why don't you take the bowl off and try it to see what happens?"

So Suzy did what her mom said. She took the bowl off the top of the candle. She was amazed! She could still see her book no problem! But also, the whole room was lit up! It was bright enough to light up the whole room!

So Suzy learned a lesson. She shouldn't just keep the light just for herself. There was enough light for her and everyone else too.
Game #2 - Sit On The Balloon Race

You will need one blown up balloon for each player. Choose 5 girls and 5 boys. The first person runs to the finish line, sits on their balloon until it pops, then runs back to tag the next person. The next player does the same thing, until all players have had a turn. The first team to be sitting in a straight line wins! Play upbeat, energetic music while game is played. The music starts on "Go" and stops when a team wins. Encourage kids to cheer loudly for their team! This is a good time to hand out incentives too!
Elroy The Elephant

Elroy is a Life Size Costume Character. (Characters never talk!) Elroy enters, with a large mixing bowl on his head. We used an industrial size bowl because Elroy has quite a large head. Elroy is holding a flashlight up to his face, under the bowl. The leader can ad lib a conversation with Elroy, keeping in mind that Elroy can only answer yes or no questions, by actions he makes. The point of the 2 minute skit is, Elroy has a flashlight under a bowl, on his head, and doesn't realize how much better things would be if he would take the light out! Elroy can bump into things, trip over stuff, and act plain clumbsy. The leader can help Elroy take the flashlight out, and then see how much better he can see! Elroy acts excited, (jumps up and down, dances etc.) to show that he can see better now, and everyone else can see too! If possible, dim the lights during this skit to add effect!
Memory Verse

Jesus said, I am the light of the world. John 8:12

Write the Memory Verse on a chalkboard. Give different kids a turn to erase a word. After a word is erased, have kids say the verse together. Although this is not a very creative method of learning the verse, if it is almost never used, it seems new to the kids!
Salvation Message

Dim the lights in the room until almost dark. If you have it completely dark, kids usually take the opportunity to scream. So, leave a door open, or a window to let a little light in. Light a candle, and hold it while you talk. Talk about Jesus being the light of the world. Without Jesus, there would be total darkness. Jesus is the light that helps us see how we should live our lives. Explain that Jesus is the only light of the world! He wants to be your best friend too! Let the kids respond by saying a repeat after me prayer.
