Here are some stories other people have sent me. Reading each of them brings back more memories for me that I had forgotten! :o) I hope you will enjoy them, too!
This story comes to me from McKenzie~
I never really did collect my Little Pony in the 80s but I started to collect them in September 1997.Well when I first began collecting {but I did already have a Mesty and Pony Bride}I wanted to find more,All I had back the were ponies that were not the real My Little Ponies.Well one day I asked my mom to take me to the flea market and she did. What a nice mom she is! Well I went search ing the whole flea market. Then all of the sudden I seen a bag that I could see through a little.I seen hooves that looked like ponies.I went over to the bag and I seen 6 My Little Ponies! I got Tabby,Surprise,Hula Hula,Dancing butterflies,Up Up and Away, and Applejack.Oh I was so excited! I seen the Pony Bride but I did not buy her but later I did buy her.
Well when I did really start to collect My Little Ponies and searched everywhere for them me and my dad went to Illinois because he has some land there. On the way home he saw a flea market and I asked him to stop for a minute and he did. What a great dad!Well I searched the whole place! They also had a dog in that flea market! The flea market is small like the size of a quick shop.Well I had searched the whole place and gave up! I asked my dad if I should ask the woman if she had any incase I did not see any and he said no you would see them if she had them.My dad was looking at tools.I fianally asked hime if I could please ask her.He said go on and ask her but you will see she does not have any.I went up top her and asked her and she said,Yes we have a whole box full of them."I could hardly believe it!There was a whole crate full of ponies!Wow! I called for my dad but he would not come because he was too busy looking at tools. Finally he came over and looked. The crat had like 30 ponies and they were $1.50 per pony! And that wonderful dad bought almost all of them!Later we came back and bought the rest!
Here is another from dmlopez@ea.oac.uci.edu~
My Little ponies were out around the same time me and my family immigrated here to the US (no, this will not be typical, pathetic sob story "coming to America") and of course I've never heard of them. We moved into this three-bedroom house. I met my neighbors, Rachel and April (hey, if you guys are out there, contact me, the digits are still the same! Or e-mail me) shortly after the move. April was the same age as my little sister and Rachel was the same age as me, we became rather good friends. So they invited me over to play and my sister and I came over their house. We entered their room and behold ponies everywhere. I didn't think much of it and I thought they were "neato" but I didn't really get into it and didn't really care about it. We went and played with our Barbies mostly and every now and then with the ponies. And so we were going to play with the ponies one day and I was rummaging through her collection when a particular pony caught my eye, she was pink with blue hair, wind-chime symbol thingy and, what I noticed most of all, this cute little heart on her cheek. She was the flutter pony Wind Song but neither Rachel nor me knew her name. Her wings were gone but she was the most beautiful pony in the world. Well of course I chose to play with her for the day. It was almost time for supper and I had to go home and I really, REALLY wanted to take Wind Song with me. I asked Rachel if I could borrow her just for the night but she said no. I begged "Pretty please with sugar on top" but Rachel stood her ground and snatched the pony from my palm. Boy was a ticked. So what did I do? I went to the nearest Kaybee's and bought a Wind Song of my very own. The next day"Let's play ponies," I suggested. Sure whatever and so we did. I busted out my perfectly new, with her beautiful wings attached, Wind Song.
"Lemme see," said Rachel
"No way dude," said I
"Come on"
"Well you wouldn't let me borrow.blah blah blah"
Rachel and I argued quite a bit. Well this little ordeal is why I'm obsessed with flutter ponies. I believe I'm meant to have them all! And just like all us 80s kids, I forgot about my ponies and I got into what I (and a bunch of other adolescents at the time, you know who you are don't deny it) thought was much more super-cool the New Kids on the Block (good lord). Scary huh? How could I betray my precious flutters for such a thing as Joe McIntire. So off my pony collection went to well I don't know where they went but my prophecy of reaching flutter utopia remained unfulfilled.
So the ponies were gone forever? Nope, they made a tremendous comeback. This chick came into In-N-Out (which is where I work, part-time) and she had this Rainbow Bright patch on her purse and all these Eighties cartoons/ toys /memories came-a-flooding in. Then I went on the net and found Ebay and the MLP Ring of Rainbows and traders and thrift shops and now am just two flutters away from completing my Flutter Collection (I still don't care much about the rest of them, except for the TAFs and I have quite a soft spot for those adorable twins). So DaRn it! Please help me rest in peace already and e-mail me if you have the flutters Hollywood and/or Forget-me-not!!! Also, I desperately need Little Flitter. I'm a softy for her and here's why: On my birthday April had a special gift for me and it was indeedy Little Flitter. I opened the box, abruptly mentioned, "Nice" and set it aside to open my other presents. I think that hurt April. She said, "You don't like my pony for you?" "I like it," said I but I really just was more excited about my other toys to pay much attention to the little thing. So I must have her back somehow.
These memories come from my good friend Molasses~
When I was turned 4, I ran dowstairs to get my Birthday presents. I got down and I had longed for a Newborn Baby. So, I opened my presents. A Little Mermaid, Rasberry Jam Pony, a pram for my dolls and my brother said "Argos (a store) didn't have what I wanted to get you, sorry" and I was upset. Then he said, " So I got you this instead" and he got out a medium sized box. I opened it and there was Baby Dangles complete with Crib. I was so happy. Then, he got out a video shaped parcel. I opened it and it was "Return Of Flutter Valley" I was amazed. I love my brother so much sometimes!
Ok....now we fast forward to the end of last year. My friend Anna-liisa also collects MLP's and we both go to the fortnightly car-boot sale. Well, she always gets there before me and gets all the ponies. Well, she had gone on holiday and I went to this car-boot sale. I was dissapointed as we reached the last aisle when I saw a reddy, plastic horn. It was Galaxy. I picked her up and underneath her was a Sundae Best Pony. All in all, I got 16 ponies in one day. I was so pleased and my friend was so jealous!
Another memory. Last christmas I walked dowstairs and OH MY GOD! My dad had bought from Car-boot sales and markets, The Nursery, Show-Stable, Boutique and 22 ponies. My brother had washed them all, cleaned them and combed their hair and styled their hair too. I love my brother a lot when he does that. He does it everytime I get a new pony.
My biggest regrets. Letting my brother try to curl the UK Sweetheart's hair with a hairdryer. She is a mess of melted nylon. I lost my Crib which I got for my 4th Birthday. I got to a car-boot sale 3 minutes after my friend and she got Gingerbread. I got conned into buying a bag which was advertised as My Little Pony, 16 of them. But I ended up with 5 majesteys, a couple of ponies which I hated at the time but now love and Keypers, which I cannot stand. I was upset. Also, I have broken many videos, lost many toys and broke some playsets. But I look after them now and I haven't lost anything since.
This one comes from Gusty~
Kyle sends me these wonderful memories~
Hi! My name is Kyle(yes I am a guy) and also used to collect MLP'S!When I was 2 or so I got my first pony which was non so soft Posey.I loved her very much and kept her on top of my toy chest where all of my toys were kept!I loved to comb her hair and make her suitable for any other ponies that might stop and greet her along the way of my collecting.Everyday at my babysitters house i would watch the MLP show it was like a part of my religion or somethin.Posey was the pony that paved a path to my 6 year adventure in collecting. My babysittres neighbor had two daughters and I would play with them(not really just their ponies!!!:O)She had Sky Dancer my absolute favorie pony and was soooo incredibaly jealous!A month or so later i moved and my pony collecting had to stop(or so I thought)My Nano(nana)had bought me 2 ponies which were Speedy and so soft Angel. At K-mart I got my pic taken with Angel and I still have it and can remember the feeling of joy I had with that pony. When i got home my Nano and my parents got in a huge fight about it(being a boy I shouldnt like em)but it wasnt about them being a girl toy to me it was about the happiness they brought me!So they went on my toy chest too along with the others. As the weeks went on my Nana would buy them for me every chance she had....she realized how much I loved them and I think she kinda liked em too!The ponies built up including in that build up were....Forget me not,Honeysuckle,Peach Blossom,Bright Eyes,Cup Cake,Shady,Fizzy,Party Time,Galaxy,Locket,Masqurade, baby Cuddles and many others! As I grew older I learned to ask my older girl friends if they had any they wanted to give me and of course they did...my friend Candace dropped two carrying casses full of them at my door! They included Princess Tiffany,Parasol,Galaxy and others. The new girl(April)was my new best friend! She gave me 14 of em includin Galaxy,Ribbons,Buttons,Skippity Doo,Gusty, and I cant remember the others! My mom(I will never forget this)gave 4 bag fulls of my ponies to my cousin without my consent!!!!! Can you believe that?well anyways my sister Michelle now collects and has a collection of about 170 thanx to me since Ido all the hard work in finden them at thrift stores!!!!! To this day she is still mad at me for not savin all of mine for her but if I still had them antways they would still be MINE!!!!!!!!
These stories come to me from Stacy~
My very first pony was Skyflier, and one day my two best friends and I all brought our Skyfliers to preschool and someone else went home with mine. But then I got Powder, who holds a special place in my herd now. Along the way I've lost plenty of them. For instance, my grandmother stole Majesty for some reason. But I've still got about fifty of them, and I'm planning to start going to flea markets and yard sales looking for more.
My favorite memory is the time my best friend and I pretended that someone had killed Pony Bride. We had a trial with her body on display in a little basket. Baby Rattles and Baby Tattles were accused, with Firefly as their lawyer and Medley the district attorney. Chief was the judge. My other baby ponies made up the jury, since Rattles and Tattles had to be judged by their peers. It was hilarious. Firefly kept trying to flirt with Chief and he would yell at her, and then Caramel Crunch came to the witness stand rather intoxicated.
One day I had them all around my Paradise Estate, and the next morning both Quackers and Baby Quackers had disappeared. Sometime later I took them all outside and came back in short a Princess Tiffany. Maybe I'll be able to recover these shortly.
I still love all my ponies, especially Powder and Firefly and Medley. And of course Dancing Butterflies, the one pony my father bought for me. Thank you for letting me share my pony memories.
This one comes from *Meja Magik*~
I was borned in 86, so I couldnīt buy all of theese I wanted. I was moore a Barbie girl and I loved the dolls. It was untill two months ago, I realised that I missed something. I quited to play with dolls and ponies when I was ten 9 years old. VERY STUPID off me!!! So I tooked the key too the a room where all old things and toys were and there they was. In a big box. I picked them up, all of them. But later I discovered that six of them wasnīt there! I asked my mom and she tolded me that there was a box in grandmas house. And I hope they are in there! I havenīt searched for them yet. When I was a little kid, cause I am still a child, right? Anyway, when I was younger then I only get ten ponies. Iīve got a six years older sister that was a Barbie fan to, so all the earlier ponies was from my sisters childhood. The first of them all was Peachy with Pretty Parlor. I have counted them all, with the six that is ina box in grandmas house. They are 26. Not so many, Iīm doing so good as I can to fins my lost friends. I am so mad that I was a Barbie girl, I love theese ponies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in Sweden. Here I could not order any ponies. Yes, I have got many UK ponies. So what? I want them all!!!!!! Itīs not so many second hand stores here, and on the garage sales nobody would sale a MLP. So please help me to find them! I will buy or trade with a MLP lover that I can trust. This one is from Brittany~
My story isn't a tearjerker but to me its sad. I was born in 85' so I got the only hot toy on the market My Little Ponies! I also got little pretties, keypers and smooshees ( If anyone is willing to trade or sell any of these email me) but I loved my mlp's and my Little Tikes kitchen dearly. Alas My mom decided it was time to sell them and my kitchen! At the time it didn't matter ,a fad was a fad, anyway she sold them in a yardsale. Now I go to yardsales and flea markets getting ponies a little pretties( I also try to get them off of my friends) to satisfy my 80's toy needs. It much more fun now y and Save all the old toys you can get your paws on!!!!!!
I just recieved this great story from Ann~
Hi, My name is Ann and these are My memories of my little pony. Ever since I was six I've always loved my little pony, i thought they were so cute and they were my favorite kind of toy because they werent easy to break. I never had alot of ponies to begin with but somehow i have always been fascinated by my little pony. I only had like 5 my little ponies growing up. I remember when my mom went to the store to buy stuff and she came with three so-softs and later on i also got a twinkle-eyed ponie. They were crumpet, hippity-hop,bangles, twilight, and whizzer. I used to play with them all the time when I was six, and i still have them displayed in my room till this day and im 17 now.
So then me and my family moved from Germany to Texas, where im living at now and i didnt think of my little ponies for a long time after we moved because our parents brought us a nintendo. I remember that Christams when we got the nintendo my mom also brought me a my little pony to go along with it. Her name was sugarsweet. But actually I wasnt interested at all and put her away in my toybox with the other ponies for years.
Then a couple years later when i was about in the fourth grade I remember walking threw the mall and having some allowance money of 5$ in my pocket. I was curious of what i wanted. I walked in the toy store and walked around for a while. Then I saw her, a blue baby ballerina pony with pink hair. I thought she was the prettiest thing and she was about 5$. So i took her home and treasured her. When i took a bath, she took a bath with me, and when i brushed my teeth I also used to put the brush over her mouth and pretend to brush her teeth too! Then I took her to bed with me and let her sleep by my side every night, thats intill i made a bed for her made out of a shoebox with some socks. Me and her also watched cartoons of my little pony together that we taped when i was six.
Then one day I realized that i loved my little pony and i wanted to get some more. I thought it would be cool to give my lonely ballerina pony a playmate. My allowance was 5$ a week, so thats when I started collecting my little pony. I was so happy when I got a new pony every week. Before you knew it, i had the whole collection of four baby ballerinas, baby starburst, Twinkler,2 rock " N " beat ponies, 3 Show "N' glow ponies, Bunny Hop, 2 pretty ponies, 2 rainbow ponies,Little Honey Pie, Secret Star, purple princess pony,talk-alot, Happy hugs, Sunbeam, Love beam and the birthday pony.
I overall had 40 ponies. Then one day something bad happened. I looked at all the other girls my age and it seemed like they were already putting on make-up and getting boyfreinds. I now thought that I was getting to old for my little ponies when i went to the 5th grade. Everytime i had freinds over I would hide my pony collection cause i was ashamed that they would laugh at me for being that old and having a my little pony collection. I remember one time when my cousin teased me about it. I tried to lie and say that I collected them all when i was six, but he checked the date on the bottom of the hoove which was dated one year back and he laughed at me.
So then, i put the My Litte Ponies away in a cardboard box in the attick where they were never to see the light of day for many years. I didnt think about them once going the middle school and high school, i was going threw too much teenager stuff. Now here comes the bad part of the story...
Last Summer me and my best freind were going threw the attick when we found the box of ponies. I felt sort of bad that the ponies were all alone up there with no one to play with. My best freind had a little sister that was about nine so i decided to give the ponies to her, keeping the 5 that i got in Germany because those were childhood ponies and thier were like 7 other ponies that i kept cause they were somewhere else in the attick other than in their box. I felt happy that someone would be playing with my ponies now but little did i know that her sister was a spoiled brat and snob, and thats when i realized that i made a big mistake. When i was talking on the phone with my best friend I over heard her sister say "Tell her not to get me anymore of these stupid ponies, i like spice girls!!!" I was angry, not even a simple thanks. But then again i didnt care much for the ponys because I thought that i was the only girl in the world that ever liked my little pony and thats why they stopped making them.
Then in may, i was web surfing one day while i stayed home from school. Then I found my little pony websites and it brought back alot of wonderful memories. I was so happy to know that i was not the only girl that liked my little ponies!!!! Even other girls my age like my little pony! But then i came to a bitter realization that i gave my ponies away. When i called my freind to see what happened to the little ponies i gave her last Summer, she said her sister threw them all away in the garbage, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well, those are my memories. Evertime i get a little spare money I go on the web and buy ponies which is now my favorite hobby. I still love ponys. I'm also trying to build up my collection that i gave away. Just never let your heart stop dreaming no matter how old you are or who you are. My E-mail is sugarican7@aol.com for anyone who wants to e-mail me or offer me any kinds of ponies that they might have for sale. Intill next time, My little pony, my little pony :)
This one is entitled "The Heavenly Day I got a Sundae Best Pony named: Coco Berry"~
It went like this, when I just got my eartubes put in my ears when I was a just a little girl just about 18 months old my parents were quite going to suprise me they gave me a Sundae Best My Little Pony and I opened up the box very carefully so I wouldn't make scratch on it and I was overjoyed to have a on my face that very day...... Well that's the most wonderful thing that's happened to me....
This great little story comes from Athena~
When I was young we lived out of town in a semi-rural area and only went into " the city " once a month or so. It was always a big event, we went to the mall and out to dinner, my favorite part was that I got to get a new pony. Once we went into Pay N Save, the only place in the mall that sold ponies, and I eagerly ran to the pony section only to discover that all the ponies were gone! I was walking around the toy department hoping to find them when I saw the Ember's Dream pony and tape set in the children's books. I grabbed her even though she wasn't what I really wanted, it was better than getting no ponies! Then I discovered that the store had moved the ponies to another asile. I put Ember back and grabbed Parasol the Rainbow pony. When my dad saw he said " Oh no, Ember thought that she finally had a home. Now she is going to be so disappointed!" I felt so bad about upsetting baby Ember that I ended up getting her instead. After listening to the tape I talked my mom into going back to town only a few days later and buying me Skydancer and Parasol so that Ember would have some of her Rainbow pony friends.
Here is another wonderful memory from Kathy Smith~
I started collecting my little ponies when I was 8 in 1982. The first pony I got was Cotton Candy and she was my absolute favorite. I loved her so much. I went into the hospital when I was nine and I had to have three surgeries over a three month period so everyone I knew started bringing me toys. They all were bringing barbies but I only wanted mlps. I finally convinced them, and over that three month period I got a ton of ponies. I kept collecting them over the years and then when I was 18 we moved out of state and we had a big garage sale and I sold all of my ponies and all of their stuff for 15 dollars. Now I could kick myself. I had over 300 ponies and the waterfall bathtub and lots of other stuff. Then the other day I was on ebay and I saw that they were selling them and my 6 year old daughter just loves the new ones so I went in and looked at them for my daughter (yeah right). The first one I bid on and won was Cotton Candy (She's mint). I have now bought like 15 or so. I have to stop buying them on there though because they are too expensive. I think I will now start getting some that need repairs so I can fix them. I have found my obsession again after all these years.
Here is a great collection of memories from Baby Ribbon~
For years I labored under the delusion that nothing could turn my head from Strawberry Shortcake. Then I received my first Little Pony, a Hasbro Softies Bow-Tie, for Christmas when I was seven. Three days later, I used Christmas money to buy the small Bow-Tie. Before I knew it, here I was with 250 My Little Ponies and 10 playsets! Following in the steps of their sister, my little brother started his own collection with Twilight, and my two sisters began theirs with Raspberry Jam and Stardancer.
Although each "pony experience" was special, a few were exceptional: When one of my sisters was born, my brother and I stayed at my grandparents' house. My grandparents took us to the mall to get our minds off of the baby (who hadn't come yet) and gave us $5 to buy something. I fell in love with Baby Ribbon, but she was $9. My granddaddy got her for me anyway, and I raked pine needles for two hours to make up the difference! Baby Ribbon is my Net character today (http://geocities.datacellar.net/Area51/Saturn/5576).
I miraculously managed to procure Blue Ribbon and the Adventures in Ponyland game, as well as all six Baby Pearlized Ponies, whose aquisitions are memorable in that my mom had to fight with Hasbro in both instances to get them to send the ponies (Poor Hasbro! They usually did well with mail order ponies, and I remember the bad times! The Mother and Baby Pony set came in 11 days!). I also would have had Hollywood, the flutter pony, but all I got was my money back (you know, that little "while supplies last" clause).
When I got Paradise Estate for one of my birthdays, I was actually overcome with an inexplicable sadness, as if, now that I had attained life's highest goal, all else was meaningless (yeeeeees, I was a weird kid).
And finally, my most expensive ponies: Gypsy ($25) and Mimic (a whopping $31). Both, by the way, were worth it!
Here is one from Sunlight~
I think my first pony was cotton candy(cf) or sunlight. I dont remember how old I was, probably about 4 years (I am from 1981). I never asked for them, my mom just bought them cause she liked them. Over the years she bought me: cotton candy, sunlight(made in france, I live in the Netherlands), merriweather, cherries jubilee, daffodil, fizzy, baby count a lot, baby quackers and baby sea shimmer. Its a bit weird, but I dont have much mlp memories, I just cant remember playing with them! I remember only a few things, like receiving a pony(and the smell of a new pony!) and trying to get it out of its package, usually my mom had to get them out and then I would throw the package away without even looking at it *sighs!!!!*. Thats why I never knew their real names until a few months ago. I do remember that I called cotton candy "Mir" I even wrote that in the pony shoes. Fizzy was the evil one, I guess because of the twinkle eyes and her pose, she looked like a kinda mean pony to me. I also remember that my french sunlight was my favorite(thats why my pony nick is *Sunlight*) another favorite pony was daffodil. I guess I liked the shy pose. All of my adult ponies are still mint(well I cut merriweathers&cotton candy's forlock once...) with curls and everything, probably cause I didnt play very much with them(my mom said I did though, I only remember playing with barbies and fairy tails, I do remember I sometimes made a barbie ride on a pony). I didnt care for the babies at all, once I made baby quackers completely blue with a marker(oh stupid me!!!!). Baby Sea shimmer is the only one I have clear memories of. She always went with me when I took a bath. I made whole stories up for her, she was a true hero who had many adventures. When I finished my bath I would put lots of soap at her hair and make it stand "up". The next day when I went to bath again her hair always was hard and standing up. I did that quite a few years, the result is that its completely frizzed! Also her body was filled with soap after so many baths, when you squised her there would come all kind of dirty black things out of the little hole behind her ears. I could have had many many more ponies, even though we didnt had much money back then, cause my mom liked them so much. She told me that every time we were in a store where they sold ponies she asked me if I wanted one, and I always said naaaaa thanks and after a while "NO MOM I AM TOO OLD"( I was 9 then arggg). So I guess I missed a lot of great (europian) ponies... She bought them for my nieces when it was their birthday, since I didnt want them anymore(I wish I could tell myself in the past that I would like them in the future *LoL*). About 6 months ago I was bored and started looking up things online, also My Little Ponies. I found Dreamvalley. I got a bit excited and went to our attick to see if I still had those little girls. I was afraid I had given them away together with my care bear, popples, wuzzles and fairy tail stuff. But no I stil had them!!! They were in a box together with my two fairy tails. I started identifying them on dreamvaley, it was the first time I knew their names and found out there were so many others of them! Very soon I learned there was a whole my little pony community going on at the internet. I found a girl who also lives in the Netherlands and we made an appointment to trade my fizzy for her applejack at the station. So we traded. After I felt a bit stupid for giving a perfectly mint fizzy away, still with all her curls and being one of my original herd. Thank god the applejack was an italian and looks great after I gave her a tail donation. Now 6 months later I have about 60 ponies and I love them so much(including a new fizzy). They really mean a lot to me, since this year has not been a very nice year for me so far. When I am busy with them I can really stop worrying about everything. They also started to re-broadcast the my little pony cartoons so I taped a few of them, it was nice seeing them again! My mom is very happy with my *new* pony obsession and I am very happy to have (re)discovered them! If only hasbro could bring the "old-style" ponies back...
Here's another great story~
How did I get into MLP? I'll tell you. I was in Woolworths (shop. Big shop!) and I suddenly noticed this cute little video with a brightly coloured pony on the front.Sweet! After wandering around for a bit with my dad, I decided I wanted that video! I pretended I needed the toilet, and went straight back to the stand with the video on it. I must have been a while because my dad came looking for me. He found me sitting cross-legged, hugging the last remaining copy to my chest crying because another girl was trying to take it away from me. Eventually she attempted to wrench it from my grip so I slapped her. Then her mum started screaming at my dad, so, to shut all of us up, he bought it for me there and then, more out of embarrassment than anything else I think!
Once I'd finished watching it, I had to get some ponies of my own didn't I? So I did. I accumulated quite a few actually. Then came the great turning point; I quite happily counted them out and cleaned them up to give away!! WHAT WAS I THINKING? I have regretted that day ever since. I would give anything to get them back, especially my favourite: Spring Song? The blue Sweetheart Sister? That will never happen though, I would go out and buy the new sort, but I don't like them as much. Somebody PLEASE send a petition to Hasbro to make the old ones again!! It may be a good idea to petition Sunbow to make the tv show again. I taped most of the episodes but they got taped over, snapped, completely mangled in that joke of a machine I laughingly refer to as a VCR...! Anyway...I've still got some of the Petite Ponies but...Darn it! I want my other ones back! *Sigh* I will get them back...somehow (cue 'Mission Impossible' theme music ^_^)
This one comes from Meghan~
My love of My Little Pony didn't come from of the toys,
but instead from the show, because I was born in 87. I remember always
looking forward to going to my best friend Rebecca's house when I was 6 or
so, because she was lucky enough to have cable, and that was when they used
to show the cartoon reruns on Disney Channel and, once, the MLP movie. I had
always loved horses, unicorns, pegasi, etc., and so of course this was my
favorite show since Pee Wee's Playhouse and Lamb Chop; in fact, I believe
Lamb Chop was my only other favorite show at the time of Disney Channel MLP
reruns. They also used to show My Little Pony Tales, but I much preferred
the original MLP. This continued on for a while until one day after school,
as my little sister (must have been 4 at the time), my mom, and I were
grocery shopping, my sister turned to me with an excited look in her eyes.
"Guess what?" she said, in her usual hard-to-understand way.
"What?" I replied.
"Someone came to fix our TV today."
"And?"
"I got to watch My Little Pony today!"
At this, I turned to my mom, wide-eyed.
"We got cable, like Rebecca." she told me.
I watched it whenever I could. I loved how the girl's name was Megan, even
though mine is spelled differently. My favorite episodes were the one where
they have to find the four magic horseshoes, along with many others. In
fact, I didn't even know the toys existed until I saw a dingy, faded sea
pony at my friend Amy's house. To tell the truth, I thought it was kind of
funny looking. Then the show stopped being on, and I was without a favorite
show for a few years. Then, last year, I saw a girl wearing a Glory tee
shirt. From that day forward, it has always bugged me when
I see someone wearing a MLP tee when you can tell they have probably never
even seen the show and just wear it to be "cool". Grrr. Anyway, I went to
the flea market and found a box full of MLPs, but seeing as though I had a
limited amount to spend, I got two unicorns, which I later found on this
site were Glory and Windy. Mom also got one for my sister, which I later
found to be Sherbert. Then last weekend my family and I went to Palm
Springs, to visit grandma, which I think of as thrift store capital of the
world. I made a mental list of what I was looking for: MLPs, combat boots
(the shoe of choice of a character in my current favorite show, Daria), and
a guitar. Guess what I came back with? Nothing. Nothing at all. Well, I did
get a really cool retro 70's phone, but nothing else. Oh well. My E-Bay
auction ponies just came in, a Star Dancer, an I-don't-know, and a puzzle.
The I-don't-know is pink with blue hair, hearts, funny clydesdale feet, and
from 1987. I am still trying to identify it, after which I will clean them
both. I am still trying to expand my collection.
Now, send me your MLP memories!
