Katharina
|
Sergio's niece holding little Indian dolls. She
is really sweet and patient. And she speaks fluently in
German and Spanish. She's also a very good
dancer. |
Nicole
|
Katharina's little sister. She loves to touch
everything, specially anything with buttons, like remote
controls and VCRs. And if you try to stop her, she will
introduce you to her little fists. Her Granpa calls her
'Mano de Piedra'
Nicole. |
Judy & Eli
|
They took great care of us while we stayed at the
Bollig's home. They are excellent cooks, and they love
Katharina and Nicole very
much. |
Mike &
Protesters |
Here Mike is standing in the Plaza de Armas, and a
timely protest came marching down the plaza. It was a
treat for the
senses. |
Archbishop
Building |
This building is next to the main cathedral in the
Plaza de Armas. Notice the woodwork on the floating
balconies, a trademark in Lima's colonial
arquitecture. |
St. Francis
Church's Catacombs |
These catacombs are located in the basement levels of
the church. We are still wondering why do they have to
display the bones according to their body
parts? |
At the
Catacombs |
The catacombs are made of low ceiling levels
underground the church. According to our guide, many of
these levels would secretly connect with other churches and
main buildings in the city, like the Government
Palace. |
Lima Evenings'
Sky |
Here we are watching the sunset from the roof of Roxana
and Gerd's apartment building. The sky took a
melancholic tint of red that was very
fascinating. |
Plaza de Armas
at Night |
Lima at night is very alive.
Notice the massive Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas.
There is a strong religious theme in Lima's
arquitecture. |
Night Out At
Sachun |
This is our first night out in Lima. Roxana and
Gerd took us to Sachun, a restaurant that showcases
traditional peruvian dances. Here Sergio is dancing "El
Alcatraz" with a Sachun dancer. The object is to try to
light up your partner's paper tail with a candle while your
partner tries to avoid your efforts by shaking his/her
behind. It is very amusing to
watch. |
Night Out At
Sachun |
Now it's Sergio's turn to outlast
her partner. She is good. But Sergio has a couple
of moves up his sleeve. Like I said it was a lot of to
watch. |
Night Out At
Sachun |
Heather didn't stay behind. She also tried some
of the dances. The Sachun dancers were pleased with her
enthusiasm.
|
Night Out At
Sachun |
Here we are posing with all the Sachun dancers.
They actually were very accommodating, and took pictures with
almost everyone in the
restaurant. |
Casa de
Osma |
This is a private museum that belongs to the Osma
family. The house is decorated with very beautiful art
pieces from the turn of the 19th century. Its outdoors
were framed by ample gardens. It is located in the
Barranco neighborhood in Lima.
|
Government
Palace |
Located on the North end of the Plaza de Armas, the
Government Palace is unofficially known as the "House of
Pizarro" in honor of Lima's founder.
We had the opportunity to tour the main rooms
thanks to
Roxana. |
The Hall of
Mirrors
Government
Palace |
Sergio and Roxana standing in the Hall of
Mirrors. The arquitect tried to resemble the Versailles'
Hall of Mirrors when he designed this hall in the
palace.
Actually this spot is pretty popular
among important figures that visit the palace to
take their pictures.
|
Press
Conference Room
Government
Palace |
Shelley couldn't let the opportunity get by to speak
her mind to the people of Peru. First item on her
agenda, "Prada outlet access for everyone!".
Here she is sitting in the Press Conference Room, which
was used just minutes later after we were there.
|
TorreTagle
Palace
Foreign
Affairs Ministry
|
This Colonial Palace has been turned into the
Diplomatic Service Headquarters. Its interiors have been
preserved with beautiful Colonial art and decorations.
We also were able to tour this building thanks to
Roxana. |
TorreTagle
Palace |
Once inside the palace, the girls had to made their
statement and pose at the palace's main stairwell, letting all
Peruvians know, 'Welcome to my TorreTagle palace'.
|
TorreTagle
Palace Balcony |
These colonial balconies were designed so that one
could look outside, but the outsiders could not look
inside. Here Kim is being her coquettish self, spying on
the 'Caballeros' that are looking to gain her
affections.
|
TorreTagle
Palace Balcony |
Roxana and Amy do not miss their flirting turn, and
take advantage of their concealment to admire a few
prospects.
|
TorreTagle
Palace Patio |
Would you like to buy a 'Peruvian in a Jar'? We
told him not to fool around with that jar, but would Sergio
listen? Noooo... We had to get some
monkey grease to get him out of there. That'll teach
him.
|
TorreTagle
Palace |
After seeing every room in the palace, we decided to
capture the moment. We had such a fun time as a
group. We need to do this again.
|
Artisans'
Market |
Everyone loved this market in Miraflores (Roxana and
Gerd's neighborhood). Almost every afternoon we spent a
couple of hours shopping there. We definitely have to go
back just for this.
|
Playing
Make-up |
In the evenings, back from touring the city, it was
always play time with the girls. Here Nicole and
Katharina find that applying make up to Heather is therapeutic
and relaxing after a long day of playing and running in the
park.
|
Pachacamac
Ruins |
These ruins are about an hour south of Lima. Here
Sergio and Gerd are on top of the ruins overlooking the
beautiful coast.
|
Pachacamac
Ruins |
We had such a great time with Gerd. He took us
everywhere, and we visited many beautiful sites because of
him. Thank you very much!
|
"Concordia
Universal" High School Friends |
Sergio had a chance to meet his high school friends
after seventeen years. It was interesting to see how
much alike they are, including Sergio. Here we are
at the 'El Tronco' restaurant, where they serve very typical Peruvian cuisine.
