Oz Goofs!!
Here's some goofs I collected...If you know of any other filming mistakes I left out email me and I'll add it to the list!
- When Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, Dorothy's pigtails get longer, then shorter, then longer again. This continues throughout the remainder of the film.
- When the Wicked Witch leaves Munchkin Land, she disappears into a cloud of smoke, but is clearly seen falling through a trap door.
- Several times you can see the wire that makes Lion's tail move.
- If you look closely at the scene were the Witch is on the rooftop, you can see a variety of large exotic birds. At the very end of this scene, when Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man are singing and dancing away, you can see a large bird move its head. If you don't look closely, you may mistake this for the "hanging man" that is said to have looked like someone climbing, then swinging across the blue screen.
- When Dorothy slaps the Lion, in the scene where they first meet, she holds Toto close to her in an attempt to cover her own giggles at the Lions antics.
- After the Wicked Witch leaves Munchkinland, Glinda takes Dorothy by the arm and warns her never to let those Ruby Slippers off her feet. Glinda raises her wand and knocks it into her crown. If you listen carefully, you can even hear the sound as it strikes.
- Dorothy is not muddy despite falling in the pig pen.
- The triangle theorem which the Scarecrow recites after receiving a brain is mathematically incorrect.
- The location of the Munchkin that hands Dorothy the lollipop changes four times.
- When the Tin Man leans from side to side during his song Toto is on the left side of the screen at one point and then when they cut to Dorthy and the Scarecrow he is on their side of the screen.
- Toto moved during Scarecrow's dance scene very suddenly, because the directors cut 15 mintues of his dance. Instead of re-filming a shorter dance, they edited the scene they already had.
Here are some more goofs that fellow Oz lover, Gehan noticed and was kind enough to let me know.
- "The Wicked Witche's death certificate says 1938: Thrity eight years after the -Wizard of Oz- was written and nineteen years after Lyman Frank Baum died.
- You can plainly tell that the flowers in Munchkinland are plastic, and the hills and the trees are all fake.
- The Man-hole from which a dirty little munchkin came out is not to be seen later.
- I read somewhere that Dorothy was wearing a yellow dress and a brown apron during the Kansas scenes. If you look closely when Dorothy opens her door after the house lands in Oz, you can see it.
- Notice how Glinda is smiling when Dorothy is talking to the Witch. Here is a little girl, talking to a superlatively evil witch, and Glinda is smiling. What was she thinking of?"
And here are some more from other oz lovers...
- "In the opening scene when Dorothy bends down to
console Toto she has a spot on her dress. Can't be seen again."
NEW!!NEW!! NEW!!NEW!!
These are from Thomas C.
- "Just before Dorothy gets hit in the head by the window she is holding Toto (Terry) so tightly that he lets out a little yelp. You must listen closely to hear it.
- When Dorothy lands in Oz and steps outside you can see the shadow of the crane that the camera is on. Look for it as the camera pans across munchkinland.
- When Dorothy turns around after the tree has slapped her she almost falls down. She has to steady herself on the Scarecrow. It happens fast so watch closely.
- When Glinda leaves in her bubble some of the Munchkins chase her. One of them is the Lollipop kid in a green shirt. In the next shot if you look over Dorothy's shoulder you can see him standing there watching Glinda float away in her bubble."
And these new goofs are from Erica!
- "When the cowardly lion sings, "If I Were King of the Forest" Dorothy trips on the rug.
- After the Scarecrow says, "See? I can't even scare a crow." and the black bird that was supposedly a crow flies onto him and took part of his face is actually a raven.
- When the group walks in to see the Wizard the first time, the
cowardly lion's tail got caught in Scarecrow's way. you can see the scarecrow pouch out the tail."
This goof is from Andy J.!
- "When Dorothy and the Scarecrow are joined by the Tin Man, as they prepare to dance on down the yellow brick road, they sing and hold the word "We're" and step on their right foot for the little jig on the word "off". When joined by the Cowardly Lion, they will do a similar dance, but the first step on "off" this time will be on the left foot. However, it appears that Judy Garland almost gets mixed up by thinking she is going to step on the right again and quickly recovers stepping on the left. You see her leg give away her mistake just before they are off to see the Wizard."
Add here is something not quite a goof...
"Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first
woman she meets, then teams up with three complete strangers to kill
again."
