Well, you did see my face in that astronaut's helmet - but how much does that tell ya about me?;)
First of all, I run another website at: www.geocities.com/SpaziNewt/. It's not much right now. In fact, I bet this site probably looks better;) But I've vowed that I'll get around to working on that one...sometime;)
First fact you get to learn - I procrastinate;) I get things done eventually, of course, but...;)
Anyway, if you'd like to know about my non-Earthwatch-self in more detail, you can try exploring that page:o) This page'll just introduce myself a bit:o)
It's interesting - reading everyone else's pages and seeing what they have to say about me:o) While I agree that their descriptions of me are accurate, I think a different part of me was evident that summer than what people I see all year long might see.:o)
If my school friends were to sum me up in a few words, I think most of them would say "Math Whiz". Of course, if you talked to my band friends, they might call me a fellow band geek;)
During our trip, I didn't exactly find time to talk much about my math skills - I was younger than everybody else, anyway, so although I may be advanced for my age, I was probably at the same level they were:o) Instead other aspects of me decided to shine during that trip - my dabbling into HTML, my sketching hobby, or Corinne might share of my Anime obsession;)
So what really defines me, then? I don't know myself;) But here's some facts I'll share about myself(myself at about the time of this trip, anwyay) and I'll let you decide:o)
You're still here?;) Well, that info got you started, but being just a big list of info, it probably didn't tell you much about me and my personality:o)
--Let's see...Ewen is probably your stereotypical straight-A student. Getting that 4.0+, involved in way too many clubs, and too nice;) Don't you hate people that that? You'd really like to hate em, but ya can't;) That's what my friends report, anyway:o) Especially last year...our Honors Chem class was on a curve, and I tended to screw things up;)
--I'm pretty shy - Though our names were similar, I was definitely not outgoing like Owen;) It's pretty hard to get to know me - especially in such a short time like during our Earthwatch expedition. Of course, the small team size helped (about 15 people total), but even then I didn't give much information about me too willingly:o) It's not that I'm reclusive or anything - I do get along with people pretty well:o) In fact, I tend to try too hard to get along sometimes - I like to please everyone and I tend to be a good listener and such:o)
--I'm a little less shy online, however. And I'm less shy once you get to know me, too;) I tend to ramble a lot online whereas I'm relatively silent in real life:o)
--Most people know me as a math geek - I was taking Calculus AB last year and doing really well in the class:o) Besides math, science is usually a forte. English tends not to be, though. Oh, I do alright, but it's not exactly a strength:) I enjoy the fine arts - I'm in choir(second(or mezzo) soprano) and Marching Band(flute), and sometimes I explore acting:o) Marching Band's lots of fun - I'm part of the student leadership staff, too:o) The nice thing about MB is that it's volunteer at our school - not required as part of other band classes as at other schools, so you get people who are really spirited and really want to be there:o)
--In addition, I enjoy spending time on computers:) I like to MUD (playing text-based games on the internet), explore websites relating to my hobbies, and I'm self-teaching myself html through attempting to build my website...:o)
--Ummm...other random facts..I'm really ticklish:o) Like even when people don't mean to tickle me...random brushes against my body tend to result in my screeching and hopping away from ya a couple feet;) Hehe - my friends tend to enjoy tickle-fests...they usually just include randomly poking me when I'm not suspecting it, tho, and then me curling up into a little ball (Travis calls it my fetal-position;)) to prevent further attack;)
--I read too much - at meals, at odd hours of the night, in the halls during passing perod (although I dont' do this one as much anymore - high school hallways are lethal compared to middle school ones when it comes to not watchign where you're going;)). high school is starting to stop this habit, unfortunately:( I'm the kind who just likes to start reading and not stop until the end of a book (or at least, until I've covered a good chuck of it) and with all the school work and activities keeping me busy, it's hard.
--I talk at the TV. I try to restrain myself in movie theaters, tho:o) But some characters are just so stupid! Some characters require you to warn them about dangerous situations, others need to be slapped into thinking right(well, I've never actually hit my screen - but I get very close;)) Others, you just have to laugh at and joke with:o)
--"Neee!" is a real word;) (As in Monty Python's Knights who say "Nee!") It's a very good word to use when you're frustrated at someone or something. Especially when you let that "nnn" build up for a while. Saying it is very cathartic;)
Ahhh - I guess it's time to wander into Hobby land:o)
Scary place:o)
With choosing friends, I'm very cautious at first...I'm very selective, picking only a small circle of true friends, not merely acquaintances (I tend to be nice to everyone, so that doesn't help determine who's my friend) - but once I've picked something, I'm very dedicated:o) And with hobbies, it generally results in obsessions;) at this time, I'm really obsessed with Odyssey of the Mind(slightly less than before - I've been out of action for a year), Band, X-Files, Star Wars, and Anime:o)
--Odyssey of the Mind. OM. Well, now I think I may be doing Destination Imagination, which grew out of OM - not sure what our team has decided yet:o) Anyway, OM and DI are both team creative thinking competitions:o) In groups of 5 to 7, kids of all ages starting from even before 2nd grade(although the Primary division is non-compeitive) up to high school and college, tackle one of five long-term problems. Their only limitations? 8 minutes to perform, a cost of usu. $100 on all materials used and whatever their minds can think of! (and usually the size of the room, too..hehe - there were a few years when we had problems fitting into our performatnce spaces;) Kids can compete in Regional, State and even worldwide competitions:o) It's a lot of fun and you meet some really neat people:o) My team's been to world 5 times, I was with them 4 times and we've met so many cool people and seen so many creative solutions!
--Ah, Band. Hi - I'm Ewen and I'm a band geek;) Band is so much fun! It's such a fun and supportive group of people:o) Parties are guaranteeed most friday afternoons if there's a home football game - yeah! Free food;) We tend to cheer louder than the cheerleaders;) And of course, there's band competitions on Saturdays and in the spring, there's tour! Our band is totally run by the students (well, not *totally*, but as close as possible;)). Chief(our affectionately named band director Mrs. Glass;)) runs things behind-the-scenes and she's always really supportive:o) But rehearsals are run by our Drum Major and Leadership team most of the time:o) It's not the best caliber music in the world, but it's lots of fun!
--X-Files:o) I love the X-Files because of all the supernatural stuff and how it manages to scare me silly:o) Or used to, anyway... I'm quite disappointed in their attempt to mainstream the series - it really isn't working. I'm sorry, Chris Carter - but X-Files is a show with a select audience. Keep your die-hard fans! Don't try and appeal to the masses! Anyway, season 1-4..even some of 5... were really great:o) I loved the spooky feel of the show and all the MOW eps:o) And what's with all this shippy-ness nowadays! Ahh! Keep that platonic relationship - it's what made the show special and different from most other shows on TV:o)
--Star Wars has now replaced my previous Star Trek fandom:o)I was a Trekkie in elementary school and parts of middle school, but Voyager really didn't hit it off with me well. The earlier season of DS9 were okay, but I was really a Original Series and mainly TNG fan:o) In middle school, once TNG wasn't being shown on TV much anymore, I began to realize that Star Trek wouldn't last forever - while Star Wars would. Of course, I had always loved Star Wars, but as Star Trek began to fade away and with the 20th Anniversary Re-releases and Episode 1 rolling ever closer, I slowly began to love Star Wars more. The grand story of a boy saving the universe, the underlying mythology that weaved into all the movies, the special effects breakthroughs - and what about those light sabers! Way cooler than phasers;) Okay, I have to admit Episode 1 was a bit disappointing...the special effects and that lightsaber duel was awesome! But as for the plot...well - it is a prequel and merely setting the stage for everything to come, sooo...:o)
--Anime. Another scary topic to touch on;) Honestly, I didn't start obsessing over this one until a few years ago - I guess everything else in my life wouldn't let me when I was younger:o) Also, access to anime was kinda scarce when I was little and I didn't have money back then to get commercial tapes or even fansubs, so I was stuck with what was on TV(ugh). I started as a Sailor Moon fan(not obsessed yet, tho - merely something fun to watch). Then I began enjoying Voltron and Robotech(Macross)... of course, there was always Doraemon and other kids shows from my visits to Taiwan when I was young...:o) My friend made me watch some Doctor Who which played on a local television station one year. I'm lucky enough to live in the Bay Area...and that station happens to be KTEH, one of the few local public TV stations (if not the only!) which plays anime! Tuning in early to Doctor Who led to glimpses of Anime and soon, as I explored more on the internet, I learned of places to obtain this new art form I had discovered. Now, my collection is huge and still growing:o) I watch all sorts of stuff - and no! it is *NOT* porn! It's quite comparable to Hollywood movies - they cover ever genre and age-group imaginable, so there's something for everyone:o) I watch relationship stories, action, fantasy, sci-fi, "magical-girl" shows(Sailor Moon-esque stuff), comedy...everything except the small number of "adult" titles that everyone seems to base their entire perception of anime on;) Oh, and I don't watch Pokemon, either *shudder* It's sad to think that that's most people's vision of Anime...:o)
Anyway, enough rambling now;) Heh - that's another thing about me, if ya haven't picked that up already;) Although pretty quiet most of the time, if you let me talk, I ramble on for hours;)

Okay! Enough of hearing about me;)
