Fractals are where a computer keeps computing a math problem over and over again (an infinate repeteable formula). The numbers keep being changed in a pattern or order... and in the end, you've got some far-out pictures.
The guy who came up with the idea of feeding a fractal equation into a computer was named
Mandelbrot
On March 1,1980 he used the formula Z=Z2(squared)+C. Except that where the equal symbol is he used a double ended arrow... to tell the computer to keep recalculating the problem over again. The end result is known as the "Mandelbrot Set". There's a couple of links below...
