Rain Forest Locations

The Green Belt

Most tropical rain forests are located near the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.  This ring of  tropical rain forests around the earth's center is known as the tropics.  Some people call it Earth's Green Belt.

Tropical Rain Forests have warm, wet climates.  The temperature usually ranges between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.  It rains more than 200 days a year in most tropical rain forests.  The  precipitation in most tropical rain forest is about 80 inches a year.  However, it  may rain as much as 240 inches during some years.
Having a climate that is both wet and warm helps to create quite a humid environment that makes it easy for lots of plant-life to grow.
