The Story of the Production
"Walt
Disney's first attempt at making a feature-length cartoon was Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs, a milestone in motion picture
history. Based on a fairy
tale by the Brothers Grimm, Disney's
eighty-three-minute entertainment
is one of the most popular and beloved
movies ever made. Once known
as Disney's Folly, it is now called Disney's
Masterpiece.
Production began in 1934 and was completed in 1937. More than 750
artists worked on the picture,
creating at least on million drawing, of
which over 250,000 were used.
Studio chemists in the Disney paint
laboratories ground their own pigments
from special formulas and mixed
1,500 colors and shades for the
characters and backgrounds. The multiplane
camera, invented and developed
by Walt Disney Studio technicians, first
reached a high degree of perfection
in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
With is, animated scenes achieved
a three-dimensional quality because
characters and backgrounds could
be photographed on several levels or planes.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave Snow White
a special award in 1939, with nine-year-old
Shirley Temple making the
presentation to Walt Disney of
a large golden Oscar and seven miniature
replicas. There are eight
songs in the picture, several of which are now
considered "standards" in the trade:
"I'm wishing," "One Song," "With a Smile
and a Song," "Whistle While You
Work," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum,"
"The Dwarf's Yodel Song," and "Some
Day My Prince Will Come." The songs have been translated into thirteen
languages and are well known throughout the world, wherever this record-breaking
picture has played."
Story
From the old fairy tale, a jealous
queen attempts to get rid of her beautiful step-daughter, Snow White, who
takes refuge with seven dwarfs in their forest home. The queen changes
into a witch and tempts Snow White with a poisoned apple which puts her
into an everlasting sleep, until a prince finds her in a glass coffin and
awakens her with Love's First Kiss.

Mistakes
While Dopey and Sneezy are dancing
with Show White, they show Dopey's hand playing the drums.
- Doc's lantern disappears when
they reach the house after working in the mine.
- Dopey breaks off the front door
handle and seconds later it's there again.
- When the dwarfs reach the house
after working, they drop some tools and scurry behind the trees. A couple
of minutes later they have tools again.

Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum
(The Washing Song)
Music: Frank

Step up to the tub
It ain't no disgrace
Just pull up your sleeves
And get up in place
Then scoop up the water
And rub it on your face
An' go blud-dle-ud-dle-ud-dle
Ud-dle-um-dum
Pick up the soap
Now don't try to to bluff
Work up a lather
An' when ya got enough
Get your hands full of water
Ya snort an ya snuff
An' go blud-dle-ud-dle-ud-dle
Ud-dle-um-dum
Ya douse an souse
Ya rub and scrub
Ya sputter and splash all over
the tub
You may be cold and wet when
your done
But ya gotta admit it's goot
clean fun
So splash all ya like
It ain't any trick
As soon as your through
You'll feel mighty slick
Bunch of old nanny goats
Ya make me sick, goin'
An' go blud-dle-ud-dle-ud-dle
Ud-dle-um-dum
Now scrub good an' hard
It can't be denied
That he'll look mighty cute
As soon as he's dried
Well it's good for the soul
And it's good for the hide
To go blud-dle-ud-dle-ud-dle
Ud-dle-um-dum
Heigh-Ho
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: [Dwarfs]
We dig dig dig dig dig dig
dig in our mine the whole day through
To dig dig dig dig dig dig
dig is what we really like to do
It ain't no trick to get rich
quick
If you dig dig dig with a shovel
or a pick
In a mine! In a mine! In a
mine! In a mine!
Where a million diamonds shine!
We dig dig dig dig dig dig
dig from early morn till night
We dig dig dig dig dig dig
dig up everything in sight
We dig up diamonds by
the score
A thousand rubies, sometimes
more
But we don't know what we dig
'em for
We dig dig dig a-dig dig
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho
Chorus
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
It's home from work we go
(Whistle)
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
(Chorus)
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
(Whistle)
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho hum
(Chorus three times)
Heigh-ho (until fade)
Music
in Your Soup
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: [Dwarfs]
With a spoon and a bowl
With the music in your soul
You can cheer things up with
the zub, zub, zub
Of the music in your doup
With a gulp
With a grin
Get a wiggle on your chin
You can make things hum with
a zum, zum, zum
Of the music in your soup
Swing that spoon
Gota keep on dippin'
Scoop up that soup
Gotta keep on sippin'
Till the bowl is dry
And your face is drippin'
Let her rip!
Let her roar!
To the first and the second
And the third encore
You're
Never Too Old to be Young
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: [Dwarfs]
Yodel:
Yodel-ay-ee-hoo (etc.)
(Repeat)
Chorus
You're never too old to be
young
You're never too old to be
young
When you start to lose your
figure
And your hips are gettin' bigger
Your chest may slip
But don't you fret
No matter how weak your knees
may get
(Chorus)
Though your teeth are out
And your whiskers sprout
And your arches give away
You're never too old to be
young and gay
(Yodel)
When ya ain't got any fuzz
upon your dome
When ya ain't got any fuzz
upon your dome
Why the dickens should you
care
If you ain't got any hair
'Cuz you never have to use
a brush and comb
When you know your legs are
gonna give out soon
When you know your legs are
gonna give out soon
When your joints begin to squeak
If you practice for a week
You can walk around and play
yourself a tune
Your voice may crack when you
try to sing
But you can't be good at everything
(Yodel, etc.)
(Chorus)
One
Song
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: Harry Stockwell
[Prince]
One Song
I have but one song
One song
Only for you
One heart
Tenderly beating
Ever entreating
Constant and true
One love
That has possessed me
One love
Thrilling me through
One song
My heart keeps singing
Of one love
Only for you
The
Silly Song
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: [Dwarfs]
Yodel:
Ho-la-la-ee-ay
Ho-la-la-ee-ay
Ho-la-la-ee-ay-ee-la-ee-ay-ee-lee-ay
Ho-la-la-ee-ay
Ho-la-la-ee-ay
Ho-la-la-ee-ay-ee-la-lee-ay-lee-o-lee-ay
(repeat)
I'd like to dance and tap my
feet
But they won't keep in rhythm
You see, I washed them both
today
And I can't do nothing with
'em
Chorus
Ho hum the tune is dumb
The words don't mean a thing
Isn't this a silly song
For anyone to sing?
I chased a polecat up a tree
Way out on upon a limb
And when he got the best of
me
I got the worst of him
(Chorus)
(Yodel, etc.)
Some
Day my Prince will Come
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: Adriana Caselotti
[Snow White]
Some day my prince will come
Some day we'll meet again
And away to his castle we'll
go
To be happy forever I know
Some day when spring is here
We'll find our love anew
And the birds will sing
And wedding bells will ring
Some day when my dreams come
true
I'm
Wishing
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: Adriana Caselotti
[Snow White]
I'm wishing for the one I love
To find me today
I'm hoping
And I'm dreaming of
The nice things he'll say
(Repeat)
With
a Smile and a Song
Music: Frank Churchill
Lyrics: Larry Morey
Performed by: Adriana Caselotti
[Snow White]
With a smile and a song
Life is just a bright sunny
day
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young
With a smile and a song
All the world seems to waken
anew
Rejoicing with you
As the song is sung
There's no use in grumbling
When the raindrops come tumbling
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with
sunshine
When you smile and you sing
Everything is in tune and it's
spring
And life flows along
With a smile and a song
