NewNews update:

(04.02.2009) Plans are underway for our Scouting exchange to Russia in July. There are 11 from our group who will spend a week touring Finland, Estonia, the joining into a Jamboree near Novgorod Russia. Plans for August included a mini-Jamboree in Oshawa, Ontario but due to small advance registration the event has been cancelled. We are however hosting 12 Scouts from Dub Czech Republic from August 4-21. Welcome!

(23.11.2008) My duties as Governor for the Optimist Central Ontario District has finally come to a conclusion. We had achieved our goal of retaining membership, introducing significant training at the Quarterly Board Conferences and increasing communications to the members. My duties this year include Candidate Qualifications for next year's board and currently webmaster.

I have offically book plane travel for our Scouts Canada Venturer trip to Russia next July. Eleven of us will tour the neighbouring countries, then take part in a Jamboree near Novgorod and experience home hospitality in St. Petersburg.

(20.05.2008) I just got back from a terrific visit to southeast Europe with friends Mary Cooper, Greg Luke and his friend Tanya. We visited Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Germany.

While in Czech Republic, Greg and I were presented with: The Scout Medal of Gratitude from The Association of Scouts of the Czech Republic, "For merits in education of youth and development of the Scout movement". Canadian equivelent to the award appears to be: "The Silver Fox" (for service of the most exceptional character to Scouting in the international field, performed by persons who are NOT members of Scouts Canada but who are associated with the World Organization of the Scout Movement).

As our nominator Lubamir Vanak said, "These guys have provided an exceptional opportunity to the Scouting youth in Whitby, Canada and Dub nad Moravou, Czech Republic by facilitating and executing exchanges across the Atlantic for a number of years. Congratulations, the honour is well deserved."

(01.10.2007) Today I became Governor of the Optimist Clubs of Central Ontario. This one year important role is to coordinate training workshops across the province for local members of Optimist Clubs. We hold 4 such workshops and inspire more service in the communities through growth and expansion.

(22.04.2007) The big excursion this summer for the Scouts is in honour of the 100th anniversary of Scouting. We will travel with 37 to Kandersteg in Switzerland to the WOSM world campsite and a jamboree called KanderJam. It will run concurrently with the 21st World Scout Jamboree in England.
