Thank you for your e-mail. Your relative, Caroline Mary Ann Froes was born at wakefield in 1862 (but the figure in our records is indistinct and could be 1872 but I doubt if it could be 1882 as it would make her 15 at the date of entry) She entered the Redemptoristines when they were at Clapham in December 1896, became a novice in 1897 and was professed in 1898. Her name in religion was Sister Mary Alphonsa. We do not know anything more about her except that some time she had to go to Burgess Hill - a hospital run by the Augustinians for religious who suffered from mental illness and she died there on October 12th 1943 though our dead list has it as October 12th 1948. This latter could be a misprint. Some Sisters in our present small community remember hearing of her death but know nothing of her stay in Burgess Hill. In those days such things would not have been discussed in community. Thank God times have changed.
You put after her date of death in your e-mail (intestate) - as solemnly professed religious we do not own anything of our own and if she did have anything she would have 'willed' this away at her profession in 1898. We trust this information will be of some use and sorry I cannot give any further details. You may get more from the Augustinians at Burgess Hill - but I couldn't be sure.
