MONITOR PLACEMENT |
A rough guide. D6500K lights should be placed behind the tv and speakers. If there is not enough room behind the seating area for surround speakers then they should be placed parallel to the seating area on the walls.
The main speakers should be on the floor and the sr speakers should be hung at ears level. |

SPECS the top five to look for |
wpc (watts per channel) The higher the number the better. This spec will tell you how loud your stereo will go. This spec is for amplifiers (receivers) only |
fr (frequency response) The first number measured in Hz should be low and the second number measured in KHz should be high. This spec will tell you how deep the base and how high the treble will be produced. This spec is important for all components but pay extra attention to this spec in speakers, tape decks and phono cartridges |
Dynamic range The higher the number the better. This spec will tell you how well the sound will be produced from very quit passes to the peak bursts with minimal distortion. This spec is very important for the amplifier s/n (signal to noise ratio) almost the same as above |
thd (total harmonic distortion} the lower the number the better. This spec will tell you how much distortion your stereo will produce. This spec is important for all components |
w&f (wow and flutter) The lower the number the better. This spec will tell you how accurate the speed of the disk spinning or tape rolling will remain.. although this spec is for cd players, dvds, vcrs, tape decks, and turntables. you should pay close attention to it in tape decks and turntables only |

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN PURCHASING THE EQUIPMENT |
RECEIVER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 75 watts per channel (main left and right channels) 50 watts per channel ( rear and center channels) Dolby pro logic surround sound decoder with modes Phono (magnetic cartridge) input, aux input, cd input, ld or dvd input(AV) Two tape in/outputs two video in/outputs Remote control RECOMMENDED More watts per channel Dolby digital (ac3) surround sound decoder Front panel set of av inputs Gold plated connectors FOR THE SERIOUS AUDIOPHILE Separate amp, pre amp, tuner and surround sound decoder |
SPEAKER SYSTEM RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS Main X 2 Woofer 12 inch down to at least 20 Hz - 3DB frequency response min. 100 watts Midrange 4 inch liquid cooled with smooth mid frequency response Tweeter horn tweeter up to at least 20 KHz frequency response CENTER X 1 dual six and a half inch shielded with a good mid frequency response 75 watts REAR X2 six and a half inch woofer with two inch tweeter 75 watts SUB WOOFER X1 Not required unless the main woofers are smaller than 12 inches When purchasing speakers look for a high efficiency (output sound pressure level) rating. For example a 75 watt speaker might have a higher efficiency rating then a 100 watt speaker meaning that the 75 watt speaker will sound louder. |
