Subject line identifiers

Please use one of the following keywords in the subject line of the note to identify the type of topic included in the note.  If you have trouble remembering them all, at least use one of the first four.

COMPANY - where you need a contact. 

(event)

EVENT list name or type, and the date.

(job)

POSITION.[ COMPANY] - know of job available, job posting

(other)

none of the above. Note: if possible, use of the more “advanced” identifiers below instead of this one

(admin)

something to do about this list "List Administration"

(discuss)

TOPIC.  generally we discourage discussion

(info)

INFOTYPE “wanted” | “needed” - pertinent job related information

Reply only to sender, not to list – when you press the “reply” button on your email program, make sure that the “To:” field of the note you are sending is the intended recipient, not CTW Dallas.  This will cut down on unnecessary e-mail traffic.

 

Provide Links – wherever possible, please include URL pointers to the information you are sending rather than duplicating the information in the note.

 

Trim – please trim extraneous portions of a note that you are sending.  This will cut down on the size of emails being sent to the entire group.

The functions described below are only available if you have a Yahoo ID associated with CTW.

 

Subscribe/Unsubscribe – upper right of the page

Subscription Options  upper right of the page -- a link called [Edit My Membership].  At this link you may choose:

n      the email address you want messages to come to.

n      how frequently you want emails

n      html conversion (note: html is disabled on this list)

 

Downloading Files  click on “Files” in the left column, then click on any folder of interest.  Within a folder, you will see one of two kinds of files: when you click on the filename, you can either

n      display the file in your browser (if the application that can view it is on your PC).  If you then want to download it, either use File/Save (in most cases), or use the “Save” icon (the floppy icon in the case of Acrobat’s PDF files)

n      dialog box appears asking if you would like to download the file. 

1.      Choose “Save this file to disk” and press OK. 

2.      specify a name and location and press OK to download it.

n      fyi, it is also possible to upload your photo to your Yahoo Profile

 

Additional functions

– click on Members and you can see.  If there is a

n      a partial email address. You can email any member directly by clicking on the partial email address.

n      the Yahoo ID (if specified) of each member

n      The Yahoo! Messenger status of each person is also shown.  If it is not shading, he or she is online there is a bright smiley face.

n      the date the person joined (subscribed to) the list. 

 

 – click on Chat and you can have a real-time chat with other CTW members who choose to chat at the same time.
