WORK EXPERIENCE

Marconi Communications, Irving, TX 1996 - 2002

(formerly Reltec)

Senior Software Engineer

Designed, implemented, and tested embedded software for Marconi’s Digital Loop Carrier system, DISC*S. Developed reusable software components for the DISC*S system, including a multi-purpose communications package supporting both proprietary and TCP/IP protocols. Wrote system integration test plans for software releases. Provided technical support for Marconi’s demos at industry trade shows.

¨         Improved both the reusability and maintainability of Marconi’s embedded software. Development time on new projects was reduced by half with reusable components.

¨         Produced software enhancements to two of Marconi’s DISC*S configurations that allowed them to support twice the existing number of customer lines.

¨         Facilitated earlier detection of software defects through rigorous design reviews.

¨         Developed using C++ on UNIX platforms (Solaris), and Rational CASE tools on Windows NT.

¨         Used Microtec and other C++ compilers.

¨         Used pSOS and VRTX embedded RTOSes, and both Intel and Motorola processors.

Sorrento Networks, Wheaton IL 1991 - 1996

(formerly DSI)

Senior Engineer

Helped form DSI as a startup company manufacturing software and hardware products for FDDI LANs. Developed and supported DSI’s FDDI Station Management software product, SMT++. Managed point releases, user documentation, and interoperability testing of DSI’s software and hardware. Participated on the ANSI committee responsible for the FDDI standard.

¨         Developed software that is used successfully by over 30 FDDI vendors worldwide in their LAN equipment.

¨         Developed DSI’s customized FDDI-II software, which is the platform for multimedia applications now used by the Australian defense and aerospace industries.

¨         Coded using C++ on a UNIX platform (SVR4) with GNU compilers and tools.

¨         Used FDDI chipsets from Motorola, National Semiconductor, and AMD.

Lucent Technologies, Naperville, IL 1986 - 1991

(formerly AT&T Bell Laboratories)

Member of Technical Staff

Developed fault recovery software for the Common Channel Signaling (SS7) system in AT&T’s 5ESS switch.

¨         Proposed, implemented, and tested software enhancements that reduced the annual 5ESS signaling downtime from 800 minutes to 10 minutes.

¨         Developed using C on UNIX platforms.

¨         Used Bell Laboratories’ proprietary embedded real-time operating system, RTR.
