Personal History:
William Francom was born and raised in Bristol, England. He learned the trade of a blacksmith. At the age of 22 he married Amy Harding. For the next 11 years he struggled to make a living as a blacksmith. During that time Amy and he had six children, three of whom died at a very young age from various illnesses, such as measles and small pox. At the prompting of his grandfather, he took Amy and his children and moved to South Africa. Here he initially worked as a blacksmith initially. With the help of his son's, he established and operated a traveling store. They used wagons to transport supplies from farm to farm. Joseph his third son had learned to speak the Dutch language, which help them to be able to sell to the Dutch settlers.
After contact with mormon missionaries, the family again moved this time to the United States and to Utah. William was never satisfied with his life in Utah and evenually moved back to London, England. Amy his wife remained in Utah, along with their children (now adults).
