You know you can save
a lot of money buying CD's over the internet.
But your scared - think it's
too complex, or not safe....... Sound familiar
Well this site aims to dispel
your doubts and show you how to buy compacts discs through CD-Now,
the largest record store on the Internet, and possibly the world.
People who will benefit by buying through CD-Now
-
You buy a lot of CD's - You need to buy more than one CD to make postage
worthwhile
-
You often can't find the CD's you want in Australia -CD-Now has a lot
more titles than your local store
-
Your willing to give CD-Now your credit or debit card number -Now before
you run off screaming "No, Never!" you should listen to a few facts
The facts about your credit or debit card number
-
You put yourself at risk from having your card number stolen every day.
-
Do you always ask to retain the carbon copy paper after having your card
swiped.
-
Are you sure the cashier doesn't copy your card number off the store's
printout.
-
Do you keep your card out of site of store security cameras.
-
Have you never given your card number over the phone.
-
By using CD-Now to shop on the internet you are exposed to no greater risks
than these.
-
So what can happen if your card number is taken by someone (either over
the Internet, phone or in a store)??
So how am I protected then?
-
Even if someone steal your card number they can't do much with it
-
Plastic Cards with raised prints are pretty hard to forge
-
If a crook only has the card number, the best they can do is order over
the phone over the Internet, but goods must be ordered to a delivery address,
leaving a nice big clue for the police.
-
The maximum amount you are liable for is $50 Australian under Australian
Law, indeed in most cases (no guarantees however) the banks or institutions
will waive this fine.
-
You are protected by yourself. Keep a record of what you spend on your
credit / debit card, and check them off when the statement comes in.
Ok already, so shopping over the Net
isn't really any less safer than using the card in a store. So how do I
save money!!

N.B. This analysis based on exchange rate of A$1=US$0.635 (January 1999) using standard CD-Now discounts on top-selling albums. Points earned from the Frequent Buyer Scheme are not taken into account.
Current exchange rates can be found here.
To compare CD-Now to some of the other music merchants on the web check out www.compare.com.au. They also compare books and DVDs. Cool!
Conclusion
If you buy between 3 and 8 CD's you will be paying less than A$25 per
CD --> Cheaper than most record stores, even on sale!! Please note buying
any more means you will have to pay customs duties.
But you say, well sometimes my record store has a special... so does CD-Now. Watch out for their extra $5 off specials or $9.99 albumns
If your into obscure music you will definitely find CD-Now useful,
especially if you like hard to get compilation sets (many only ever released
in the US)
Many CD's are released in the US way before Australia, if you advance
order through CD-Now, you can have the CD in your hand only days after
the US release, not months. CD-Now will also hold the rest of your order
until the CD is released saving you double postage.
