There are routines present, too. FELLOWSHIP NITE, the second Friday of the month, is a time when food abounds, conversationsr ange from theology to child care to the injustices at the swimming pool, and we all join together to thank God for continuous support and generosity by singing Johnny Appleseed...all three verses! The celebration of the Eucharist at the end of January was a great time had by all!!! Bishop Michael Bedford-Jones joined us to bless the new altar and was the celebrant. Our friends from Gateway Community Presbyterial Church congregation were also present.
This winter has not been too harsh for cold weather, but the past few months have been difficult for many to manage: bills from Christmas demanding to be paid, job prospects as bleak as the darkened days, life's path taking unexpected turns, resulting in a feeling unable to cop; resources, both financial and emotional, seeming to be non-existant. To walk one's journey day by day is exhausting and looks impossible to do.
It is on this landscape that the Flemindgon Park Ministry tries to be a small ight of Christ when there is much darkness and doubt. Ladies Lounge on Thursday afternoon is a time when women gather to learn and do a craft, to talk and share, to rest and find a moment of peace. They are busy making fridge magnets to be used as the fundraiser for the Flemingdon Park Ministry's contribution to FaithWorks. The computer room now houses two refurbished computers that are being used greatly. The game of Solitaire is a wonderful way to study "how to use a mouse" on the computer.
The month of Befruary was a time when a "floor mat" was created. A piece of prefinished canvas was hung on the wall and everyone who came into the office was invited to have paint put on their hand and make their hand-print on the mat and then sign one's name. We now have the most unique, one of a kind, floor covering in the Park. Everyone is invited in to see our wonderful addition!!!
Lynne Rogers has decided to continue with her school work full-time, so has resigned her position here. We had a gala Fellowship in January to wish her well in her future studies. She earned staight A's in her first term, so the expectation was that she keep up the good work. Lynne has contributed greatly in the three years that she was here and will be an asset to where ever she works in the future. The process of looking at the needs here and how to fill them is now under way in order to hire. In the meantime, Tanya and Cheryl keep the office in order, five days a week.
Heather Stacey, who works here on Mondays from the Church of St. Cuthbert's, announced that she is being ordained to the deaconate on May 3rd at St. James Cathedral. We are getting the rides organized, so we want to be there to cheer her on.
The thinking and organizing for the summer program is under way:
