The millennium is ending and a new
one awaits to begin on the horizon.
How is the world different? What has really
changed for us? There have been advances
in medicine so lives are saved that
would have succumbed to disease in
the past. Industrialization has gone beyond
the imagination so that machines can
do almost anything that a person can.
Transportation has moved from walking on feet to faster
than the speed of sound.
Has anything really changed for us? There are
still wars taking place. Sure, the
location moves, but death and destruction
continue to be part of the outcome.
The good life of the developed countries
has the same price tag B other
countries need to remain poor. Some
members of society can never rise above
their present status in
life because of gender, orientation
or the colour of their skin.
I personally struggle constantly with
this sameness that continues
to persist down through the ages.
GOD CALLS FOR A DIFFERENT WORLD!
Jesus was sent to bring God among us and became fully human, knowing our pain and suffering, joys and happiness. Jesus acted radically in His world. He questioned the laws and associated with the marginalized of His society. We, too, are called to engage in the conflict between good and evil. We cannot sit pas-sively and wait because wars kill, people starve and human beings are destroyed by discrimination.
I pray that the next Millennium will see changes that turn the world upside down: no hunger, no war and all people able to grow into the person that God created, and that each one of us will have done our part.
On behalf of the Board and the staff of the Ministry, and
