I never went to church as an adult, even though sometimes I did feel the need to.
I couldn't quote a verse out of the Bible because I've never really taken the time to read it.
When I would pray, it was always for my children, asking God to keep them out of harm's way. I never thought about praying for myself.
One day, as I was going to the Flemingdon Plaza, I noticed a bunch of children singing a song called, Oh, The Lord is Good to Me.
I had been with my two kids when one of the women asked if I was coming to join in. I told her that I didn't know what was going on.
She then proceeded to inform me that the Ministry was involved in a Children's Summer Program every day from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and that we were more than welcome to participate.
Through the Ministry, I have met other parents and my children have made a lot of new friends.
Later on, I volunteered to do some painting for the children's corner that was set up. I also design posters and signs when necessary.
I gave a renewed faith in God, especially when I talk to my minister, "Betty". She has opened my eyes to a lot of new opportunities that could be waiting for me if I am willing to try to better myself.
Betty has been very supportive, helpful and is so understanding, especially of one's own shortcomings. Maybe that is why I fell comfortable talking with her.
When I have a question, she is always there with an answer and if she doesn't know the answer, she will find someone who does.
I am not enrolled in a computer school, which I attend as an afternoon student, but every morning, I try to pop into the Ministry just to say "Hi!" have a chat or write a poster or two.
I feel the warmth and sincerity all around me every time that I walk through the Ministry doors.
Faithfully, Stacey Bowen
