Trebuchet:
Trebuchet was a machine
verymuch like a catapult except it worked like a sea saw. They had heavy
weight at the end of the bar which pulled the arm down flinging the large
boulder over to the enemies with a great force.This machine could fire
100Kg bolders at the range about 200 meters.
Catapult: A
catapult consisted of a upright arm which threw stones towards the enemy.
The arm was held in place by thick band of twisted cords or strings. A
string was attached at the back side of the arm. It was rewinded by a knight
and suddenly it was let go so that it would hurl the rock in the sky. The
mordern term for Catapult means any throwing machine.
Balista: Balista
was a giant crossbow which fired huge metal tiped arrows. It worked verymuch
like a crossbow. The arrows were released by the tesion of the thick strings.
The string was sretched by a mechanised gear at the end. They were mostly
used for defence.
