Cathedral: Seville’s cathedral is the largest and the tallest in Spain. It is the largest Gothic building in the world. It is the worlds third largest Christian church, coming after St. Peter’s in Rome and St. Pauls in London. It was startedin 1402 and finished in 1519. It is 116 meters long and 76 meters wide. It has dozens of chapels.
Giralda: The second tallest structure in Seville is the Giralda which is the Cathedral’s minaret. It can be seen from all the parts of the city. It is 311 foot tall and is located to the northeast corner of the Cathedral. Its construction was started in 1184, whose gold had cost 4000 dinars in 1198. Later a Cordobian architect named Heran Ruiz gave beautiful touches to the tower during 1565 to 1568. He constructed 25 toll bells and the enormous statue of DE LA FE, which is 4 meters tall on the top of the tower.
Alcazar: Only a few steps south of the Cathedral stands the extensive royal palace known as the Alcazar. It was build by Peter the cruel who ruled Castile and Leon from 1350 to 1369. It was build during the14th and the 15th century. The name of this palace was given from the Arabic word al-qusr, meaning a fortress. It is a rectangular structure with good defensive walls and massive corner towers. It was originally a 12th century Arabic fortress which had undergone many arcotectiral transformations.
