"Good
night", my mother wished me as I went to bed in a hotel located in Egypt.
We decided to visit the great ancient ruins of Egypt in the summer holidays.
We reached there at 7O’clock in the evening. I was very excited, I could
see the marvelous pyramids right here from the window. They looked great
and I could hardly wait to see them from close by. The weather was pretty
hot and I was sweating but I was able to go to sleep sooner than I had
thought.
The very next
day, as I was taking my breakfast, I asked my mother, "can I go the market
which is located next to our hotel for a walk?"
"Sure, but come
back during lunch time," my mother responded. I hurried down using the
elevator and went to the market. As I was walking and looking around, I
saw a huge shop with many Egyptian statues on sale. The owner of this shop
was an old man, and he looked friendly. I went inside just to take a look
at those beautiful statues. Most of the statues were made of gold and silver
and they looked marvelous. Suddenly my eyes fell on a most beautiful piece
of carving I had ever seen in my whole life. It was a glittering statue
of the Egyptian god Re. It was made of plain gold and was about my size.
Suddenly there was a crashing sound at the entrance of the shop. There
was a big man who was dressed completely in black clothes and had a gun
in his hand. It looked as if he was a criminal. I quickly hid behind the
statue incase there was any trouble. The man looked quiet angry. The old
man was having a conversation with him. As I was far away, I was not able
to hear them. Soon the man was gone, and it was safe for me to come out.
I asked the frightened owner of the shop about the criminal. But he refused
to tell me a thing about him. I quickly hurried to the nearest police station
because I thought it was serious and told the leader of the police everything
I had seen. But he didn't seem to be interested in it. As it was getting
late, I left the station in bitterness.
That afternoon,
I took a big lunch and was quietly reading a novel called Jack and Jill.
Soon it was evening and I decided to watch the pyramids with my binoculars.
Since it was almost dark, there were no more visitors around the pyramids
and I had a clear view. Suddenly I saw that black man again except there
were four or five of them near one of the pyramids. They were carrying
something big and heavy in their arms. I wondered what were they doing
there at that time. At that very movement I called the Police, but the
main leader wasn't there. I told myself to forget everything and enjoy
the trip. Just then my mother came in said, "Tomorrow we are going to see
the pyramids, pack the necessary things you think you will need. " I was
so excited that I hardly got any sleep that night.
The next day
we quickly took the breakfast and hurried down to see the ancient ruins.
As our hotel was nearby, we walked the distance. I saw the sarcafecous
of the ancient legendary kings of Egypt. I also saw the all the pyramids.
Soon it was evening. My mother said, "Ok lets go home child, its almost
evening, we will come back here tomorrow. " Just then I had desperate rush
to go to the bathroom. I told my mother to go. I would come back in just
five minutes.
I walked down
the way to the public bathroom. I went in locked the door and then washed
my hands. As I was about to come out, to my horror, the door had been locked
from outside and I was stuck. "Some body help me," I cried, but there was
no response. Soon I thought that it was a waste of time I had to figure
a way out myself. I stepped on the toilet seat and climbed up. To my surprise,
there I saw a small red button. I wondered what was that button. I pressed
it excitedly and a passage opened up in the wall. I climbed up and
saw that the passage led to a dark room. I decided to go there.
Soon I entered
the room. The odor of the place was terrible and there was hardly any sunlight
coming in there. I guessed that I was somewhere inside the pyramid. Perhaps
in the kings or the queens chamber. It was really dark inside and I needed
something to lighten my way. Suddenly my hand toughed something soft; I
guessed they were the bandages used for mummifying. I had to find something
to ignite them. Using all my knowledge about the ancient Egyptians, I remembered
that the pharaohs kept almost everything they owned in the pyramids for
their afterlife. Using all my luck I started to look for a match or something
to light. Suddenly, I stepped on something hard. I picked it up and noticed
that it was a lighter. I wondered what was a modern lighter doing in an
ancient pyramid. I quickly lit the bandage with the lighter.
Too my horror
I was surrounded by mummified bodies of people. No wonder the place smelled
so terrible. There were also golden statues similar to those which were
in the shop where I went yesterday morning. There was also a lot of many
gold and diamond jewelry in chests. I had a strange feeling about this.
Meanwhile it was getting darker outside and I needed to find a way out
of the pyramid. The room was sealed and didn't have any way out, so I had
to go back where I had came from. Then in a corner I saw a wooden table.
It was big enough for me to go back to the passage. I climbed up and came
back to the bathroom. To my luck, the door was open. I quickly rushed outside.
Suddenly a hand grabbed me from behind.
I realized that
he was one of the men from the group I saw yesterday. He acted fast and
stuck a tape on my mouth so I could not shout for help. He also covered
my eyes with a blindfold. I struggled but it was useless, the man was too
strong for me. Soon I was kept in a vehicle and taken to their base. When
they opened my eyes, I saw six men sitting around me.
I had several
questions in my mind. "Why did you bring my here? Who are you? What are
you going to do with me?" I asked those men.
"Shut up, boy!"
one of the men shouted at me. "Let the boss arrive, he will answer all
your questions." I was really frightened; I wondered who their boss was.
Soon he arrived. To my horror, the boss was the police leader who I complained
to when I first saw the buglers. He probably was a corrupt policeman.
I looked at
the boss with real rancor and asked him "Who are you." "Ha ha ha," he roared
loudly, "we are one of the most wanted teams of criminals. We found a way
inside the pyramid and found all the jewels and precious statues there.
We are also using the room for hiding all the precious things from the
police until we find a way to take it out of the country."
"Then what were
you doing in the store in the market?" I asked him.
"Oh, that old
man sure does have some valuable statues there, we replaced all those statues
with fake ones. We also warned that old man, that if he tells the police
or the detective, then I would kill him." Now everything made sense to
me, the store, those men near the pyramid, the secret door and the lighter.
"But what
are you going to do with me?" I asked him.
"I am
afraid you know too much about our gang and secrets, we will have to get
rid of you permanently.
Now I
was really scared, I had to find a way to escape, but it was almost impossible.
"What is your last wish, boy?" the leader asked me.
"I have
to go to the bathroom," I said innocently. The bathroom was outside, a
man came with me. He was holding me tight. Suddenly I struck an idea. I
bit the buglers hand real hard and ran as fast as I could. But the man
was following me. Suddenly my ankle was sprained and I fell down and… "Wake
up my dear child," my mother was calling me. To my surprise I was only
dreaming and it was only the second day of the trip. "Hurray," I cried
loudly.
