Our apologies for lack of a report from our Community Constable, Kevin Brinsden, this month.  He has been on duty with the "Youth Safety" Operation and will return to the office on 23 June.

We have had a request from Newmarket Station to make people aware of the need to call the Police on 111 immediately an incident happens.  In a recent incident the offender was still on the property and police time and resources could have been saved had the call been made immediately.  All incidents should be reported to the police as soon as possible whether it be burglary, theft of cars or property, persons acting suspiciously.  The reporting of these incidents at the earliest possible time is imperative to the offender being caught before offending again.  Unlawful taking of motor vehicles should be reported to Auckland Central on 379 4240.  Serious incidents should be reported by dialling 111 immediately. Theft ex cars should be reported in person to your nearest police station.  In the case of credit cards being taken your FIRST obligation is to cancel these cards with your bank before reporting to the police.

GRAFFITI WAR-WAGER
On 13 June 2003 an Anti-graffiti Awards Ceremony was held at the Auckland Town Hall attended by Mayor John Banks, Noeline Raffils of the Law and Order Committee Auckland City; Rob Shields, Graffiti Prevention Officer with Auckland City; Howard Broad, District Manager, Auckland Area New Zealand Police who promised ongoing Police support in our fight against graffiti.

Several citizens were awarded certificates for their endeavours in the fight against graffiti including our own chairman of the Epsom Neighbourhood Watch Committee, Dennis Wilkinson, who has been a long time advocate and worker in this area.

Some interesting statistics for the past 12 months were quoted at the meeting (details over page).

Dennis proudly holds his Police and Auckland City award certificates.
